Would XM Ever Consider Moving O&A To PM Drive?

I believe Opie & Anthony would be better off in PM DRIVE (3pm-7pm EASTERN, live). O&A share some Howard Stern listeners. They had great numbers in PM DRIVE when they worked at New York's WNEW-FM. I enjoyed their show more in PM DRIVE.

I know the chances of this happening are slim and none. Yes, I'm sure Stern would have a field day if XM did it.

Well, they're already on in PM Drive. It's called the Replay.
______________

The key word here is "LIVE". I read a recent article that stated Anthony doesn't enjoy getting up early. Just a thought.

When they did the homeless shopping spree before xmas, they were live from 3-7. People were calling in saying that they would love for it to be permanent. Op's exact words were "Its never going to happen". Also, you are right, Stern would have a field day with it. For that reason alone it will never happen.

Perhaps when XM and Sirius merge in August (just a prediction), management will demand they move to PM (if Howard allows them to stay at all.)
______________

Im pretty sure if there was a merger, it would be XM buying Sirius. There couldnt be a merger anyway, the govt wouldnt allow it. It would be similar to the nixed Dish Net/Direct TV deal

I was only speculating, but trust me, after reading all the denials of a merger over the past year, I am now CERTAIN they will end up as one. Olga Kharif of BusinessWeek sums it up best in her July 2005 piece on the subject:

First, they could merge. True, they would face antitrust scrutiny from federal regulators. But chances are, the combo would pass muster.

Here's why: Unlike satellite-video companies EchoStar (DISH ) and DirecTV, whose merger proposal was rejected back in 2002 because it would have created a monopoly in rural areas, XM and Sirius aren't profitable. They could argue that competition puts a financial strain on their business. Moreover, they don't control a large chunk of the consumer market anywhere.

What's more, the licenses XM and Sirius received from the Federal Communications Commission back in 1997 don't specifically prohibit a merger, says Harold Furchtgott-Roth, a former FCC commissioner who's now president of economics consultancy Furchtgott-Roth Economic Enterprises.

Um, how about not creating a niche product that has immediate, lasting appeal for a small fraction of the population, and will be usurped by better technology within ten years of its signing on, and then complaining about competition? How about creating a product people actually want... oh, I know, terrestrial radio will die next year. There is no competition. When it's conveinient for them.
