Would you care if 'KTU and Mix 102.7 flipped?

In light of the CBS rally, I ask this question. Not that I see this happening anytime soon, but then again fans of the oldies didn't expect CBS to go "Jack" either.

Granted, 'KTU has had mixed reviews in here as well as Mix 102.7 but both stations have their angle in covering dance music. So here goes my "20" questions:

1) If 'KTU or Mix 102.7 flipped tomorrow, would you miss them?
2) Would you want another dance station on New York terrestrial radio?
- If YES to question 2, how would you want it...more current leaning, classic?
- If NO, would you purchase satellite radio? Or keep to iPods.
3) Would you particpate in a rally for either station?
4) If any of these station provide a stream for their former format on the Internet, would you tune in?

Curious to see what you all think...

I prefer Mix over KTU because I like classic dance and disco more than newer dance. But, New York should have an outlet for classic and new dance, so it wouldn't be good if those stations flipped.<P ID="signature">______________

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was talking about 103.5 KTU and Mix 102.7 swapping frequencies. I would love it if they did since the useless station on 103.3 kills KTU on most radios here.

I would miss KTU a lot since it plays a lot of current dance.

Yes

Current leaning like Party 105 right now

If KTU flipped, I probably would participate in a rally (KTUrocks.com - You have no dance)

If there were a KTU2 stream, I would tune in.

1) If 'KTU or Mix 102.7 flipped tomorrow, would you miss them?

Not for a minute.

2) Would you want another dance station on New York terrestrial radio?

Not at all--I feel that KTU and Mix 102-7 bring nothing excellent to the table of NYC radio.

3) Would you particpate in a rally for either station?

Not at all.

4) If any of these station provide a stream for their former format on the Internet, would you tune in?

No---these streams are pointless and it is being proved by the Oldies WCBS-FM Stream. It makes no sense at all, and I would never tune in.

About 103.3

I assume you are talking about the college station. 14,000 Watts of power for what, garbage? I don't know why 103.3 has such a large amount of power and coverage.

KTU is Clear Channels lowest rated FM in the trends. WCBS had a good last trend as Oldies. Not saying its going to happen but CC could get the itch to flip KTU to oldies or Hurban. And that would leave WNEW to grab this audience.

I Agree Ryan. WKTU should become NY's Oldies Station playing from 55-89 daily with all the cbsfm jingles remade for them, plus have Ziggy as the promo guy, and Reverb too and bring back all the great CBSFM Jocks and move them into Blackrock 17th Floor or keep em where they are at now. Plus keep the live stream for ktu on ktu.com so me and everyone can hear it if they went oldies.

Hey Tony,

Good set of questions, as you know I am a dance lover like yourself so here are my answers.
>
> 1) If 'KTU or Mix 102.7 flipped tomorrow, would you miss
> them?

Absolutely! KTU is NYC's dance station (even though they should abandon disco and become more current). I think Mix sounds pretty good so I would miss them too.

> 2) Would you want another dance station on New York
> terrestrial radio?

Yes!! NYC has its own personality as a radio market and dance music is a huge part of it! Not country, not even active rock as we have seen with recent changes to K-ROCK and not one country station in the city.

> - If YES to question 2, how would you want it...more
> current leaning, classic?

Well many stations on the NYC dial already mix disco into their music mix, so I would want to go with more current dance.

> - If NO, would you purchase satellite radio? Or keep to
> iPods.
> 3) Would you particpate in a rally for either station?

Not really, I love KTU and Mix but I wouldnt participate in a rally b/c it wouldnt lead to anything.... ala WCBS rallies.

> 4) If any of these station provide a stream for their former
> format on the Internet, would you tune in?

No because its not the same.

Good questions Tony,

I Would Care

Honestly I would care. I know Vic Latino and Johnny Budz over at KTU and Paco Lopez at Mix. I hate seeing talented people lose their jobs. I used to work with Baltazar in Boston when he was at Jamn. Both stations have talented jocks in all their dayparts. Jocks are losing their jobs to format flips everyday. Half the stations that are flipping are not bringing back jocks. As for us radio jocks, radio is all we know. When you take it away, we have nothing. We dont know anything else but this industry. You cant expect us to just go start a new career like in car rental or a desk job. This is all we know.. SO I would care if these stations flip..

Just my two cents.

I have a better idea. Move Jack to WKTU and bring oldies back to 101.1.

To add on...

I've spoken with Vic Latino and Johnny Budz (occasionally he posts here) and for ANY radio station, anyone losing their livelihood to format flips STINKS. And I did feel that for the CBS jocks.

WPRB is by no means garbage!! I just love it when they play the sounds of squealing saxophones for three hours straight. "EEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeEEEEEEeeeEEEEEEE".... now THAT's improvisation!!!

I don't really listen to either station with their current formats, so if they flipped formats they might actually gain me as a listener.

Clear Channel has been flipping away from the Oldies format in other markets, such as Orlando. They're not going to flip to the format in New York, especially when you consider that KTU outbilled CBS-FM last year, and CBS-FM has been dropping in billing.

Move Jack to either KTU, Mix, or K Rock. But, we have to stop dreaming.
