For those who may remember back in either in 1999 or 2000,
When there were 3 oldies stations on the FM band which were:
WXXY 103.1 – WUBT 103.5 and WJMK 104.3

However, somebody from Clear Channel should of thought of a
Real Oldies station back then, because no one weren’t playing
any music from the 1950s.

Here is the reason why.

Let’s go back into time in an imaginary time machine!
It was the year of 1999 when these oldies radio stations were competing
with each other! There were 3 of them all along together side by side!

WXXY 103.1 were nothing but a Motown oldies station, until they’ve
Changed their format and called themselves The 80’s Channel.

WUBT 103.5 called themselves The Beat “Jammin’ Oldies” which they
played all black R&B and Motown music.

WJMK 104.3 known as Magic Oldies 104.3 a course they played the
same old oldies over and over again.

It’s too bad that WRLL didn’t exist at that time, because instead of WRLL
being on the AM band, they’ve could of land on either 103.9 MHz or 104.1 MHz.
Instead of being on that crummy 1690 KHz with a lousy reception!

WRLL would of fit real nicely between WUBT and WJMK. It would be like
A trap in where they as the signal wave would say, “come in and get me!”
“Because we are way different from any oldies stations in Chicago!”
WRLL would of broken the mold by playing 50's and early 60's music.

But it’s too bad that there is no more of these oldies station all in the roll anymore,
because all them were brought and sold out by other companies.
There is only one FM oldies station, which is a so-called temporary format, called:
WZZN 94.7 True Oldies. But god knows how long it will last???…

WXXY also mixed in Madonna - Take A Bow and Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me

The Beat played disco along with some 80s pop/dance (Prince, etc) in addition to the R&B.

During that time frame, WKKD FM 95.9 (Aurora) was also actively playing oldies. (In 2001 WKKD FM became the River.)

uhh..

why not an oldies station from the 40s..or a 30s...

Just like the 50s...NO AUDIENCE...

Heck, even satellite doesn't have a 30s channel. XM does have a 40s channel and both services have standards. Even Sirius' 50s channel only plays the rock era of the 50s and early 60s and not the early part of the 50s. Actually, I think it sounds better that way instead of having a clash of genres between the early and later parts of the 50s.
