WOW-Clear Channel Taking A Nose Dive

A friend and former coworker tells me the Clear Channel Raleigh group can now boast of owning the three worst billing stations in the market. From what I hear the group is millions behind last year in sales and Sunny, RDU and the River are ranked last in sales. Even if ratings turn this book can anyone there turn it into revenue?

I have also heard that RDU has been at the bottom in billing due to its steady slip in the ratings. The River would be struggling with revenue simply because it is a new station with only one true ratings book but it doesn't help to have an inexperienced sales staff.

I can't wait to see what pops up next on this board under the "WOW - ______ Taking A Nose Dive" category.

Love 'em or otherwise, the final years of good ratings + revenue for that cluster were under Koppelman, Brian Burns, Bob Edwards, etc...

Finally it has been said. The current Clear Channel crowd doesn't have a clue about how solid those stations were a mere four years ago. Those of us who were there know. Ken and company will go down in history. There's your nose dive.

Of course, we REAL WRDU old-timers would say that things went south about the time those clowns showed up in 1996.

That goes without saying. I grew up listening to the old QDR and then RDU. Never lucky enough to work under the old regimes but that was one great station. Poor Blade. It must kill him to see what has happened over there.

> It seems CC has a number of problems....not just in this market but others as well as the corportate office dictates so much of the value of sales--the sellers themselves are handicapped. If your sales team doesn't believe with CC corporate changing the rate structure on a monthly basis (well..almost)...how much drive and termination is there to go out and sell? but rather rely on the bread and butter accounts solely? Too much turmoil within to be driven to be successful..Keep it up, CC....love your "less is best"...it sure is for me!

I think Lucy meant "drive and de-termination" unless the "termination"
part was a Freudian slip...
