Wow hardly Lite (101.5)

Okay so I'm a geezer but I was very surprised to hear Lite 101.9 or as we geezers remember it WLYF. They really have kicked the tempo of the music way up! It doesn't seem like "Lite" fits anymore. Lite sounds more like a cross between Y-100 and Studio 107 (I know an old ref).

The webstream quality is really very good. Better than most stations.

Geezer Mike

Mike, you are right on the money here. If I listen, in the afternoon or evening coming home from work, I have heard a number of songs that had me saying to myself "wow, I can't believe they're playing this".

Maybe Soccer Moms are hipper than we think!

Doing a little informal comparison it actually sounded like WFLC (The Coast) was more current but a little softer than WLYF (Lite).

This is a good thing, much better than 2 A/C's playing from the same list!

Mike -- Judging from your post date and time, you might have caught 101.5 LITE FM's "Friday LITE Fever" (Friday nights 8 p.m.-12 mid.).

It's four hours of (nearly) non-stop mainstream disco/dance music from the late 70s and early 80s (just one five-minute spot break per hour). You referenced the old WSDO (Studio 107); I'm pretty sure they considered calling the show "Studio 101" at one point.

The rest of the time, the station is a fairly mainstream AC -- and competitor WFLC is actually a tad more uptempo and current. On Friday nights though, while LITE is boppin', WFLC is contractually obligated to interrupt its own "Totally 80s Weekend" for "Delilah" (which may account for your perception that they're a bit slower). (The stations aren't quite as head-to-head as WLYT and WKQC in your backyard.)

There were a few changes recently with the streaming provider -- so LiteMiami.com is experiencing some occasional technical glitches during the commercial cutaways. But it's my understanding they expect further improvements in the next week or so.

Thanks, I did catch the "Friday Lite Fever" but also looked at their playlist to see what they played earlier in the day and there wasn't much difference.

I'll give them another listen. I'm not saying what they are doing is bad, just not what I expected.

that "wow" factor a couple of you mentioned had the desired effect! They've kicked things up a notch and the stream is superb. Best I've heard. Changes for the better, for sure.
