WOW! I Can't Believe CBS-FM Played THAT!

Well, I knew CBS-FM has been slowly but surely delving into the 80's lately - but not like this!

This morning, toward the end of the 3 AM hour, CBS-FM played the uptempo, freestyle-leaning 1987 Stacey Q song, "Two Of Hearts."

I can imagine the look on one dentist's face if they played that same song in the 3 PM hour! ???

That one was #8 for the year 1986 on Z-100, which means it was as NYC mass appeal as it gets.

That song is 24 years old! It fits their "classic hits" or even "oldies" intention.

BTW it was 1986. Released in February but became a "summer" hit.

You are getting older. That is why you are questioning it.

I've noticed that the station seems to be a bit more adventurous in the late-night hours. Maybe that's where they test songs they're considering adding into regular rotation.

It's New York! That should explain it. How many large markets do not have any Country stations. They just lost their only remaining commercial Classical station (10/8/2009) and that was because it was owned by a failing newspaper.

Any uptempo dance-type song with a former commercial value will be heard, eventually, on CBS-FM, as long as its demographics are not dead.

"2 of v's" certainly qualifies.

New York City is not my idea of a diverse radio market. Athough, that's today.

same thing here, but this song was from the WQHT's "Hot 103" days back when it was a dance station.

Thanks Anita and Jeff (subsequently) on the correction on the year... I was going to confirm it on Google, but I went with my gut... It's not that I'm disputing that the song was a hit, especially here, as Anita pointed out. But I guess you can count me in with the Mikes of the world...

I'm scared to know your opinion when CBS-FM starts playing Prince, Stevie B, or George Lamond. What matters is, that song was a "Hit" and I don't see any problem of Two Of Hearts being on rotation on CBS-FM. Wait until we get into 2015 when the 90's will soon be on rotation.

I have no problem with CBS-FM playing Prince, as he is very mainstream. Hell, I believe they're already playing "Little Red Corvette", now that I think about it. But when I heard it, it didn't faze me as much as a Stacey Q hit would, since Prince is so popular. Maybe a Stevie B song is doable. George Lamond... come on, I know "Bad of the Heart," but I doubt the demo that will be listening to CBS-FM in five years would.

George Lamond had a hit with "Bad of the Heart" back in 1990. Originally it was called Loose Touch when that song was released in 1988, but never had a hit until 1990 when it was renamed as George Lamond.

Yes! Put some 90's music on CBS-FM and see it what it fits and get rid of that Beatles and 60's Motown out of the way. I hope they will phasing out 60's music until it will phasing in the 90's songs as well. Here's what the songs that you'll about to hear on CBS-FM in the next five years:

Personally I'd rather hear a late 80's dance song on CBS-FM than something like Van Halen or Bon Jovi. But I guess you're treading on thin ice either way. Prince is definitely fair game - I've also heard them play "1999", "When Doves Cry", and "Raspberry Beret" with some regularity.

Most of the 90's list is definitely far off for CBS-FM right now - especially Britney and Christina. People listen to CBS-FM specifically to *avoid* that kind of music. MAYBE in a few years, I could see "Vogue", "I Only Wanna Be With You", "Losing My Religion", "Linger", and "Finally" being mixed in, and they've played "Mambo #5" before. The rest are either too slow, too new, or too edgy.

Funny; I'd think that, at the very least, Van Halen's "Jump" wouldn't raise eyebrows; ditto with Bon Jovi's biggest hits, and compounded by his being something of a "native son" a la Springsteen...
