Wow, Laura Ingraham 5.5 Million Listeners

The show sounds like a Wake...No Life... The production is non-existent. She is ranked 6th by talkers.com with 5.5 million listeners.

No doubt, her program is the best on the radio. The only one I have ever been able to sit down and listen for 3 straight hours. It's about time bigger stations are realizing this, like WRKO in Boston where she is the lead-in to Rush in the 10th largest market.

I will never be able to proclaim a show to be the "best" or even average, when I know the stance somebody is going to take on everything before they open their mouth.

Liberal or conservative, predictable = boring. I realize plenty of mush-brains will disagree.

When are people going to wise up?

I doubt that Laura Ingraham is pulling 5.5 million listeners weekly. Since most of here affiliates barely pulls over a 2.0 share. For example WTDA Columbus Ohio is pulling a 0.5 share.

I think she is very talented but her show use to be better when Lee Habeeb produced the program. Since Lee left, Laura has prefered "pretty boy" no talent producers.

Hardly. Her show is very well-produced with appropriate contemporary bumpers, etc.

I agree. Her production value is decent. It's her horribly boring content that I find so painful.

for the record, contemporary bumpers doesn't mean the show is imaged well. Thats the one weak point that most of the national shows have, poor production value period. With the exception of some of the Westwood One product and Glenn Beck, most of the national talk radio shows are horrible. For example, the imaging on the TRN shows is particulary terrible with Salem a close second.

Most of these shows do not have an imaging/production person. Occasionally they get lucky with a boardop who has SOME production experience but overall, the production is weaker than a major market talk station.

Also, a little word of advise for producers doing production (even just a 29 sec promo) on a national show...DO NOT USE ANY COMPRESSION! Every station will squash the audio down (and each does it differently) before it hits the air and when you have compressed audio on top of heavily compressed audio it sounds like sh*t on the AM band. It also can sound like a trainwreck on FM talkers as well.

Produce the audio up dry with a little verb and send it on its way. Just make sure the production is mixed well.

Laura does better on TV than radio. When she dresses like a Woman it makes up for her lack of stage presence. She is intelligent, fairly quick-witted but has NO presence behind a microphone. Dennis Miller is similar, NO presence behind the mic... You need to see his facial expressions to give him presence. Its amazing to me that these two have radio shows. Even someone like Dan Patrick is rather weak on radio. Another that comes to mind is Chris Mortenson, holy cow his radio show on ESPN is week.

Here is your chance Laura. Hire Jorge Rodriquez formely of the Neil Rogers show WQAM. He was fired. Your show desperately needs production. I mean really...

The issue isn't with Laura. Its with the TRN middle management ops guy in Oregon who is in charge of finding producers who also just a couple of years ago was fresh out of college and call screening for Savage. Besides Masters, TRN is very weak in mgmt. Laura was at her very best when TRN took the show from Westwood One. Lee Habeeb was great and was a guy who "just got it.". Although he had no broadcast experience he was a fan of talk radio and he was VERY VERY Smart. Maybe TRN thinks they can follow that same philosophy on finding Laura new producers....speaking of which, I think she has been through 5 or so producers since launching on TRN? So perhaps Masters first move would be to fire the OPs kid. I think the pool is a little to deep for him.

The problem is with Laura and her habit of immediately and predictably framing every guest or call into an 'us vs them' debate.

You won't learn anything listening to this show.

She does o.k. on TV, but is very whiny on radio. She whines, complains, and throws out way too many sound bites. The sound bites have become a crutch for her show. Show couldn't survive without them. Hard to believe 5.5 million would allow themselves to be duped by a talentless skinny waif.

I could not understand why our local affiliate jumped to bump Glenn Beck for Laura when her Salem deal fell apart. She was on a local Salem station and when the network dropped her the local competition bumped Beck to a delay to accommodate Ingraham to be on live. Now that they have added a new local midday show Glenn gets truncated on the last hour. She is ok but not as high energy as Beck, Limbaugh, or even Hannity.

How my heart bleeds for you as a righty when you don't get the exact line-up you prefer, seeing as your side has a near-monopoly of opinion talk radio anyway.

Problem with Laura is that she is "outraged" about 5 times an hour.

Gets old quick. Plus, she attacks callers before they even have a chance to say anything.

As for Miller, he is great, good funny show with lots of variety in guests.

Laura Ingraham is on in San Antonio OMG....

You've got to be kidding. Same time slot as Rush.. Whats the point....? I do listen and I just don't get it.. It makes me wonder if Free Enterprise really does work...
