WOW! Now Here's a DUDE On Fire....

great promo...what I love is he intro's and outro's the music with trivia about the song or artist....instead of some anecdote about what an elephant did to his keeper in india or solicting call-in's on what your dog did last night...or on this day the wheel was invented......on this day in rock n roll history would be great..we have a guy locally that wastes 40 minutes per hour on bulls--t from 10:00am - 2:00pm instead of music.

Minus 14 minutes for commercials....

So he plays 2 records an hour?

actaully two stations do that in the morning drive locally , the classic rock and the classic hits...i can drive across town which takes about 28 minutes without hearing a song, yes sometimes 2 songs per hour.....the classic rock station is co-hosted, co-hosted shows tended to waste even more time with banter between the two hosts. Obviously I am exagerating to make a point, but, it's pretty bad , mostly the first hour.

it's like that saying "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out"...

Yikes. Even talky old MOR morning shows 40 years ago managed 6 songs an hour.

Great, so now even MIDDAYS are going down the drain?

We worry about being tuned out because we play ONE SONG that they don't like? So yet we think maybe we can keep them by playing ZERO songs?

You can. It won't be a music audience, though. It'll be a talk audience. Then the worry will be that they tune out when they hear music. And that's when they stop playing it altogether.

AM AC stations used this device to transition to Full Service and to Talk 25 years ago. Worked really well for some, disaster for others.
