Wow, only in Southern California radio does this happen

I'm not a hockey fan but hear what your saying. Howeve, the Kings have been hear for a half century and the Ducks for nesrly two decades. Granted that there are more popular sports than ice hockey but we do have a lot of transplanted Easterners and Canadians. The point of the OP was that when locked into a championship drive their games should be accessible

The OP is well aware that supply and demand determine what games get on the air. He was lamenting that his personal preference of Ducks hockey is not being adequately addressed.

As for your other point, well, I'll defer to the late Jack Kent Cooke, who was the original owner of the Kings (and later the Washington Redskins) who put forth his observation on the Canadian transplant situation, when he could not get the attendance he was looking for for his King home games at the Fabulous Forum. He said "There are over 500,000 Canadian transplants living in Southern California and I now know why they moved - they HATE hockey!"

*sigh* I have to defer to the late Mr Cooke, who I believe owned the Lakers before the Kings or Redskins. He was himself a Canadian and would likely know whereof he spoke.

Well, plenty of Talk stations also run sports. Even some All-News stations do. KABC for decades was the home of the Dodgers, while it was also frequently LA's #1 station. And KFI's sister station in NYC, WOR, is the new home of the NY Mets. I think listeners don't find Sports unusual on an AM Talk or News station.

Advertisers like to position their spots in Sports events, thinking it's foreground listening. And if they're sports fans themselves, it's an easier sell. Farmer John's Hot Dogs and Cold Cuts has been a longtime advertiser on Dodgers games, even if its mostly women who buy their products. Bigalow Tea is a big advertiser on Yankee games. Really, how many tea drinkers tune in the Yankees? It's gotta be some CEO or family owner who makes the decision to spend millions advertising on Dodgers and Yankees broadcasts, even if the product is not a natural for baseball fans.

But would KFI benefit financially from carrying an occasional spillover game from a Sports station? Probably not. Aren't there any other AM stations in LA to carry these hockey games? Even a commercial religious or ethnic station could do it once in a while.

What I always perceived to be KFI's objections to sports is the strong news and talk image of KFI in a market where the interest in sports is much lower than, let's say, Denver where the big news talker does sports and sports talk.
