WOW! Ratings

Here we go again. Looks like all you Q100 flag wavers have seen that there is no silver lining to the beating your cherished little radio station has just been delivered. All the interns and radio wannabes have been very quiet over the past 24 hours.

Star 94 took a nail..... whacked it a few times to set it...and 95.5 The Beat delivered the final strike, embedding it deep into the coffin that Q has been laying in since its inception. Over 4 years and still no progress. That hurts. If you average every one of their books since the beginning, they are ranked around 20th, and are below a 2 share.

I'm sure the excuses will start flying... Oh our signal is too bad... diary returns were down.... it's all SPIN. Q100 would be a HUGE radio station, if it were located in a town the size of Eau Claire Wisconsin, and if there was no competition.

They are just way out of their league. All they do is hire the rejects from other stations in town. Just look at their roster of people who were axed from The Beat and star that have graced the airwaves of the Mighty Q!

I'm sure i have left off at least one name, but it's hard to remember the people that have been through that revolving door of a radio station.

Sorry I had to vent, but I just couldn't allow it to go unnoticed that the Q100 followers have been so quiet. And I have looked at the demos, and there is nothing good to take from it for Q, so don't even start with the whole "they did great in their demo" nonsense.

Here goes Bert and company talking more smack about the station that is kicking their rear end.

I wonder how the new owners will react to them almost being in the top 5 in their target demo, and getting beat by their closest competitors in a demo they don't even try for?

I'm not even going to try anymore. We know what you like, we know what I like. We all know what station everyone on this board favors and what station everyone hates. Its futile to try and change anyone's mind simply by using this board. I could spin numbers, as can the people who only have access to the 12+ numbers who actually think 12+ means anything. I could talk about target demos and how they perform there, and other can fire back with "Nuh huh...thats not their target...this is...and they suck" (which is always an adult way to look at it).

With that said. Whats everyone favorite soft-drink? I like Dr. Pepper. Discuss.

But he's right. Any way you look at the latest numbers, Q is horrible. What's their audience? 12+? They're 19th overall and the Beat tops them in morning drive, middays, afternoons and nights (Q lost audience share in all the day parts). 18-34? Their numbers fell by more than 25 percent, they rank 10th in the market and they lost audience in mornings, middays and afternoons (they were up by a fraction at nights). This isn't a question of personal preference. You like the station....good for you. But, from a radio standpoint, put emotion aside and realize that Q is a station that is in deep trouble. What would you do to pull it out of its slide? Can it stop the bleeding?
Edited by knowsnews on 07/28/05 02:51 PM.

I know. I was just yanking your chain. I thought you would detect the sarcasm.

Clear Channel killing oldies Cool 105.7 made 96 Rock the top rocker in Atlanta, and Atlanta's 3rd gold-based station (after Kiss & Majic), and we've got no oldies station. First off, CC moved Viva to 105.7 from 105.3 replacing Cool, and modern rock The Buzz moved from the extremely weaker 96.7 to the much more powerful 105.3 signal, and giving Buzz a 1.1 share. 96.7 began simulcasting 105.7 a few days later. As with the rock theory:

1. Classic rock 96 Rock gained because of Cool's demise.
2. Alternative 99X rebounded to its 3 share, but lost few of its listeners to The Buzz when it moved up the dial. See above.
3. AAA Dave (which was the top rocker during the fall & winter books) made listeners return to alternative competitor 99X.
4. For Buzz info, see above.
Edited by PassDutch on 07/30/05 04:35 AM.
