Wow With a W

Someone just re-posted the following from Kenny Bosak, that he said in August of 2007.

"And the chance of Karson & Kennedy doing mornings for Doc Flinn a year from now are close to zero. They are probably already on the radar of PDs in top 20 markets. If they aren't now, they will be soon. Dynamic morning teams are hard to come by. K&K are a dynamic morning team. In 2008, they are more likely to end up in Miami, Phoenix, Tampa or St. Louis than hanging out at Flinn's tenement house in the Hickory Hill flood plain."

Kenny, I recall reading that post and thinking "from your keyboard to God's ears." I guess you have a direct line. We start at WBMX (Mix 98-5) on January 5th. Technically 2009 but, close enough for government work. ;D

We've had so much fun at WHBQ-FM and are happy to have called Memphis home for almost five years. This is even harder on my wife, who is an elementary school teacher and is leaving behind some pretty amazing students.

And to quote someone on the Radio-Info/Atlanta message board, "how does this effect Q100?"

K~

"Somebody re-posted it?
Wonder who? ???
Anyway...out of curiosity I looked at the Boston boards a little.
You may have to win 'em over. There are skeptics.
One that stood out was someone posting about having to "settle" for some team out of #49 Memhis market that was #14.
What an a$$.
I guess they're everywhere!
I never heard you guys on the air...but when you can leave Memphis and go to Boston...that's good enough for me.
Good luck!

Your so wrong for that :)

but it is funny!

Hokey with an "H".

Yo, Karson: I don't know you, I'm out of the market so I haven't heard you and I don't have a horse in this race, but I have spent more than a fair amount of time around New England media types (and other types, too). I find them to be a difficult bunch to get next to. There is no question in my mind that you and Kennedy have your work cut out for you. This ain't gonna be a cake walk.

What DOES jump out at me is your tendency to use the "____ with a ___" bit on everything you post here. If that's your big hook in Boston, it ain't gonna be enough. I respect Kenny Bozak's opinion and for all I know, he may be right...perhaps you and Kennedy ARE ready for a big-time place like Boston. I DO wish you well in your new effort.

Your move from Memphis to Boston is BIG and I don't mean to put you down, however...from the cheap seats...lose the "hook". It's boring and hokey.

Well Bat, I appreciate the sage advice. You're correct in believing that a "hokey" hook is hardly the key to success in Boston, or any other market. The "______with a ______" you referenced is a just a play on my nickname, "Karson With a K." I think you are also correct in realizing that hard work will be required for our station and show to succeed.

As for your belief that I should lose the hook because it's "boring and hokey", I disagree. As an example, I received an email this week from a woman who moved to Nashville over a year ago, who listened to our show when she lived in Memphis. She had a young son whose name began with a "K." She stated that her son now does the same "With a K" when meeting someone for the first time. Granted, this is just one woman but the fact that she recalled the origin of the idea, shows something very interesting. The woman remembered a relatively insignificant fact about our show, a character trait. It's been my experience, that good shows who continually reinforce their character traits are successful. Not to mention, we have Kennedy who is smart, funny and a fiery redhead.

In the end, you're probably right, it's a "hokey" nickname. ;)

K~

Go up there and kick butt, K. Please give your 'radio wife' my best and have a great holiday! sc

If my "hook" or "handle" or whatever were Bat Fastard, I'd be careful about badmouthing "______with a ______" It's just a name and cream will rise to the top the name notwithstanding.

Hey Karson ... I'll settle for ten points of your new contract. ;D

Congrats on the move to Boston. I had you guys going to a top 20 market, and you decided to go top 10 instead. You are destined for greatness.

Now if I could only predict where I will be a year from now ...

Karson.....

Yo dawg, congrats on the new gig for the both of you! Mo Bounce down here at Hot 95-7 told me about it. Couldn't have happened to a better morning duo. Hope you are well!

Kick some A** up in Beantown bro!
