Wow....

Not sure how well this antenna will work in Houston, but if you want great reception more choices, I have that radioshack 12 element antenna, Mike you were right, this is a DX'ers dream out here in southern Lavaca county, I can pull in Beaumont nearly on a regular basis, even 96.1 in Lake Charles I can pull in mostly all the time, except on skips or highly tripo area. I just couldnt believe of how much better reception I can get out here with that thing 20' up in the air. I gues it also helps that its almost a straight shot from here to Houston & points east. I can get nearly every format that I need out here now :). Only thing I wish I could pull in better would be 91.7 & 89.7 in Houston, KHVT signed on the air on 4/06 and it must be a blowtourch. 89.5 from Bay City also blows out my chances of getting 89.7. The other only problem with it out here is that car radios have a problem at pulling in most stations, but I mostly listen to either KTSA or WOAI.

jras, it has been a while since I've been out in Lavaca County or the surrounding area. How do the Houston AM stations like KILT 610; KSEV 700; KTRH 740; KBME 790; KJOJ 880; KPRC 950; KNTR 1070; KGOL 1180; KXYZ 1320 come in during the day? Any other Houston area stations that have a presence where you live? What if any Houston stations do you get at night?

KTSA is a blowtorch even in The Galleria area day and night. KLVI 560 BMT is not much stronger. KKYX 680 is another San Antonio station that has a great signal day and night. WOAI is listenable, but not very strong in my area. KSAH 720 is very good days and KRDY 1160 was good at night until the KMGS 1160 Dallas upgrade and now they override KRDY. With a good radio and a loop antenna KLUP 930 is listenable in The Galleria area, which isn't bad for 5kW and a first adjacent 920 KYST that sends a powerful signal into Houston from Texas City and local 950 KPRC just two channels up.

Before KYND 1520 Cypress came on the air, KHLT from Hallettsville was a near regular station most late afternoons or early evenings, depending on the time of the year. Actually in the winter 1520 Hallettsville could be heard most of the day. The signal was very weak, but then I didn't have any loop antenna's at that time either.

Enjoy your antenna setup. You should be able to log much of Texas from your locale. Dallas, The RGV, Corpus, Houston/Beaumont/Lake Charles, Lufkin, The Panhandle (Amarillo/Lubbuck) and Midland/Odesssa. Who knows, on the right day El Paso may not be out of the question.

Take care
Mike

I havnt got my am antenna hooked back on down there, but I can tell you in my truck, from 1-5 5 being the best

610: 2
700: 2
740: 3
790: 2
880: 1
950: 2
1070: 1
1180: 1
1320: 1

The nighttime signal down there is useless, really about the only Houston station I can get is maybe 740, and it bends a lot. I wish I could fix it up to where I can get most all stations day & night there.. WOAI comes in pretty decent but they even fade every so often. I thought on the FCC page said that KHLT was a daytime only signal? funny I came home from a party one night, they were on at 12:30am, they faded in and out but was still on the air. Maybe the FCC goofed on that one. I know up here they goofed, They put up a 102.7 translator and it is really causing me interferince on Jack 102.7 in San antonio.

What RGV stations would you be able to get?
I would think KTEX would be a tough catch with the inteference from KCYY and KILT. And KVLY would be out of the question, due to KIXS. KBFM would be tough also due to Digital and KRBE. KKPS probably gets thrashed by KISS. The only one I could think would be KFRQ (Q-94.5-The Rock)

Most of the time I cant get Brownsville, KIOX was off the air though this weekend when I fliped around, I picked up KVMV out of McAllen all the time, it wasnt even durring a tripo. KIXS and KQQK are really the only ones that fight through eachother.
I might also add that I can get 650 its probably a 1-2 catagory though its pretty decent signal most of the time.
