WOWW 107 - Back in the day

Early 80's.

I'm confused because the only morning show I remember on WOWW 107 was (Luke) McCoy and the (Marty) White Boy.
I just discovered I could post photos here. This was an expirament. Want more?

This one blows my mind because I know nothing about WPFA other than it was apparently built.
Circa 1955?

Whoa, this is the first I've heard of that! I did some digging and it has a short history, but it was on the air. Debuted in October of 1953 with DuMont affiliation. It actually beat WEAR to air by about three months. The station appears to have signed off for good in December of 1955. Channel 15 remained vacant until WPMI came on in the early 80s.

I can't imagine there was many potential viewers for a small UHF station in Pensacola, carrying the struggling DuMont network.

Was WPNN 790 known as WPFA in the '50's?
Sister stations?
Co-owned?

I know about nothing of the history of 790 here in P'cola. The histories of WCOA, WEAR, WNVY, WBSR and WBOP are what I've tried figure out. I think I've forgotten most of what I (think) I figured out.

It's almost shocking to me that Pensacola had UHF tv back in the 50's. I don't remember watching or even knowing UHF TV existed before WPMI signed on in the 80's and gave away free UHF antennas at local 7-11 stores so I could pick up the station.
Before that I thought PBS channel 23 was cable only. I never wondered why channel 8 called themselves channel 23. Didn't matter, i preferred the other 5 channels cable added to the TV.

790 started off as WPFA in about 1955 according to the information I have. It had that same call sign right up until 1990, when it became WSWL, and it became WPNN is 2002.

The station had a country-western music format up until FM competition forced them out, then it was Christian music for a while, and then it was Headline News under the WSWL and WPNN calls, until the standard news/talk format we hear today.
