WOXL

WOXL is following the lead of many other AC stations doing all they can to keep the format from falling off the over-55 cliff.

On a related note, did anyone in Asheville ever air Z-Rock? I saw a post on another board that said this, but I'm pretty sure the only Z-Rock in Asheville was this station, and it was fairly tame, while Z-Rock was metal.

Z96.5 and this station are NOT the same... I wonder if there are any old-timers here who remember enough to tell the entire story...

Z-96.5 was a rock station but was not Z-Rock, the syndicated heavy metal produuct out of Dallas that was semi popular in the early '90's. I think 610 AM in Charlotte was the only station that carried Z-Rock in the Carolinas, and that was for most of 1990.

WZLS is the station that was on 96.5 in Asheville back in the mid-'90's. It was an AOR locally owned by Zeb Lee that became part of an ownership dispute and FCC quagmire that lasted for 5-6 years. It temporarily took the calls WZRQ for a whort while before a judge let the WZLS owners retake control. The dispute continued until 2002 when corporate owners, Liberty broadcasting/Saga (?) prevailed and WOXL was born.
