WOXY No Longer Internet Only Starting Monday

Cool. Now they have two listeners. If they can add a Carrier Current signal at Miami U, they'll be up to 3.

Maybe if you paid attention to the message boards at WOXY's website, you'd notice that many people (myself included) went out and got an HD radio specifically for the Future of Rock n' Roll. Stop raining on everyone's parade by defending the bland, commercial, corporate robot stations over the stations that do radio the way it should be done: for the passion, not the profit.

This could be a good test case for farming out HD-2 and HD-3 channels to third parties. If HD catches on, I could see religious broadcasters like K-LOVE and CDR brokering deals to supply their programming to markets where they can't get on the analog signal. Maybe WOXY will offer its stream (and the Vintage channel) to other markets.

I love WOXY, but don't believe for one minute that they're just in it for the passion. They want to make $$$$ too. Otherwise, they wouldn't have made the decision to shut it down before lala.com bailed it out.

The folks at woxy.com have always believed that it can be profitable. The problem is and will continue to be, can they hang in there long enough for the technology to catch up to them. internet radio alone will not be enough for them to make it. There will have to be a reliable and relatively inexpensive way for people to listen on the go to make it profitable. Obviously having a company like lala.com come along to help foot the bill for a while longer is a huge help.

Having said the above, don't believe for a second that the people running woxy.com aren't VERY much in it for the passion. the strongly believe in what they're doing and have for over 20 years. it was something that Doug and Linda balogh cultivated in every employeee and it's certainly a big part of the people still at woxy.com.
