WPAZ is back....

Looking through the FCC's CDBS, it looks like Four Rivers has put the heritage call back on 1370. Haven't heard any more as to what will happen with the station, though.Anyone hear anything more?

Assuming then it would be part of The Word FM network? The AM signal would cover a lot more of the area than the smaller FM signals they have. Although I gate to see the loss of a 'full service' station (& no home for Frankie Roberts Ranch), Contemporary Christian is a good fit for the Berks-Upper Montco area as WBYN is more Adult Contemporary Christan.

They'd be better off simulcasting the signal of another live-and-local-turned-Christian radio station, WCOJ.

Interesting that they would invest in AM 1370 given they already have FM 88.1 (using the ol' WZZD call) that reaches Pottstown reasonably well. I believe 1370 is their first AM frequency.

On top of that they've picked up WXLV 90.3 up in beautiful Schnecksville, PA (a few miles NW of Allentown).

Unless I'm mistaken, WCOJ is 100% Catholic, affiliated with EWTN; not exactly live nor local.

Four Rivers is clearly in the evangelical camp... I had thought they were primarily locally originated but nowadays much of the schedule is satellite-delivered, it appears.

While you could call both stations "Christian", that's about the end of their similarity.

The WordFM network also includes WZXB 90.5 just up route 100 in Bechtelsville. I think they've branched out and cover parts of 4 or 5 states now (Pa, NJ, Md, W.Va and probably some sliver of De.) I don't think they do anything live any more. Satellite this and satellite that. Very dull and generic. Nowhere near as good as they were a few years back. Hard to keep tuned to once a set of music ends.

Dave G there is nothing live and local with WCOJ anymore, its just a transmitter building and 4 sticks west of Coatescville. WPAZ would be better trying to get back on with a simulcast of WCHE West Chester. The local taxes are part of the reason this station is dead, they're higher then a decent salary for someone to work there!

The reason I believe they would simulcast The Word is because I believe all the stations they own simulcast The Word! I see no reason they would simulcast a Catholic talk network as they are all about evangelical contemporary Christian music. WCOJ is already a simulcast of 5,000 watt WISP (WBUX RIP) in Doylestown & between the 2 signals they cover most of the region well already. The Pottstown/Berks area is still well populated with people of Mennonite & fundamentalist Christian background where Contemporary Christian music would do well. Nearby WBYN tried dropping the format for AC and classic hits on 2 occassions but apparently had trouble selling those formats and always came back to their Christian music-talk hybrid.

Is 1370 itself still silent? Typing "WPAZ" on the TuneIn App still brings up WBZH "The Buzz" (which is currently netcasting mostly Indie Rock out of Collegeville I believe)

I'm not sure but the owner of WORD is a very smart guy and I believe he has an FM power increase in mind. It's good to have an AM outlet but I believe he'll be able to ramp up an FM translator that he may already have on the air or one he has an application for and is waiting for approval.

I seem to remember seeing here that the then-WBZH did indeed have a translator. Not sure of the call or frequency, though.

Possibly this one, 101.7 W269BT. But I thought they may have had a CP for 103.5.

Why would you need an AM to increase the power of an FM translator?
also, dont you have to use an off-air signal to power the FM Translator, which means wouldn't the AM need to be in stereo to have stereo come out of the FM translator?

Although WPAZ didn't have a translator, WCRP 106.5 Part 15 "Community Radio Around Pottstown" would sometimes simulcast WPAZ/WBZH. WPAZ owners, Four Rivers, applied for a low-power CP on 103.5 in 2011. Not sure of the status but it's not on the air. The 101.7 in Pottstown is a translator of an NJ-based Christian station. This weekend I noticed WCRP-106.5 IDing as "WBZH Pottstown", running "The Buzz" promos and airing the Dr. C Doo-Wop show on Saturday 6-7PM, the same time slot it used to air on WPAZ/WBZH.

Looks like it's still just an application--no CP granted yet. They proposed to use it as a translator relaying WBYO, but we know that can change.

Vmelis, do you know what NJ Christian station is airing on 101.7?

I wonder why it isn't WBYO.
