WPBK-FM, Crab Orcahrd, Kentucky

News Release to Local Media (9/25/07)

Lincoln Garrard Broadcasting Company, Inc., has entered into an agreement to provide local radio service to Lincoln County, Kentucky. The new station will operate on 102.9 FM and will broadcast from a location in the Highland section of the county. From that location, all of the geographic area of Lincoln County will receive a strong signal from the station.

Pursuant to a Sponsorship Agreement with PBK Bank, the call letters for the station will be WPBK-FM and PBK Bank will be the primary, hourly sponsor of the station’s programming. The offices and studios will be located in the Arch “Buzz” Walker building on Main Street in Stanford.

Jonathan L. Smith, President of Lincoln Garrard Broadcasting Company, Inc., commented on the new station, “Since selling WXKY-FM (formerly WRSL-FM) to a non-commercial broadcaster, I have heard from many members of the community who desire local, commercial radio service. This station will certainly answer the need that has been expressed by the community. In fact, the driving forces behind acquiring new radio service for Lincoln County have been Bruce Edgington, CEO at PBK Bank, and County Judge Executive Buckwheat Gilbert. Both have worked very hard with me to make this opportunity possible.”

Lincoln Garrard Broadcasting Company has been in the local radio market since the early 1960’s and was a pioneer in FM radio, signing WRSL-FM on the air in 1967 as the area’s first FM station. That station was upgraded in power in 1995 and subsequently sold to Educational Media Foundation. WRSL-AM has been silent pending an upgrade and move to a new location.

The station will operate 24 hours a day and will concentrate on the people and activities of Lincoln County, although the signal will cover the adjoining counties and most of central Kentucky. The target date to commence broadcasting is January 1, 2008.

Oh great, I guess no more Hot 102.9 WDHT, Springfield-Dayton for me.

That's a shame...I love Hot 102.9, I listen to it all the time up here in northern Fayette Co. But this new station coming in on 102.9 down in Lincoln Co. most likely won't affect me.

I live in Danville so I will likely be overloaded with signal from this new station. I can listen to Hot 102 from Cincinnati to Columbus very well. It will be missed by me. I also want to mention that I can no longer hear WIZF, Cincinnati due to it moving from 100.9 to 101.1. WSGS is way too much for me hear as well. I guess I'll stick to 96.5 and 107.9 for all my hip-hop. 102.5 sounds pretty good too!!

is Lincoln-Garrard Broadcasting Co. the same company thats buying WKFO/WKFC in Corbin?

Thank you! I appreciate your help with the information.

If they need someone to help with the marketing end, the lead partner in our company is from Corbin, and Im certain he would do a lot of marketing and research for free.
