WPBQ 1240 Jackson is back

now airing some sort of talk programming. Just tuned in, not sure of the actual format. Now airing the Dennis Snow(?) show. Never heard of him.

It was on "Dead doctors don't lie". But they also have some conservative talk on the station but haven't had a chance to listen for long.

Bill Fulgham who owns 1240 had talked Mark Jones into running dead doctors dont lie for a while over here in vicksburg on wvbg...was glad to see it go. When they moved to another channel on starguide we never bothered to change over, just filled the time with something better.

I heard 1240 for a few mins when I was in Jackson today, Bill has been telling me since september of last year that he was "about to have it back on"

They must be using a different transmitter. The old WPBQ sounded good before it went silent. Now it sounds kinda "fuzzy".

old csi from the 60s... sat idle for quite a few years, the nautel that was there went missing along with quite a few other things

That's not what happened Stephen. Some of the equipment was removed and sold as per the co-owner's instructions. I'm not sure Bill has told you, but the equipment did not go missing. I'm not going into any details here, but you can email me privately if you like.

Why would they remove the transmitter? It would render the station practically usless to the next person that wanted it.

Whats the deal with WPBQ. Was listening to G.Gordan Liddy this afternoon and stopped for a bite to eat, got back in my truck and it was wall to wall accordians and trumpets with someone rapping in Spanish. If they relaunced as new/talk that sure didn't last long. Less than a weak? Still spanish as I'm typing this.

I think he has a mexican doing spanish programming several hours a day.

I'll find out what all he is planning on running, was just on the phone with Bill earlier.

I first heard the station again on Saturday.

I heard talk.

I was QUITE suprised to hear Spanish and Mexican-sounding music late in the afternoons on Monday and Tuesday!

I also noticed PBQ has "Mancow in the morning" Which is also on WJFN AM/FM. However Mancow on WJFM sounds like its out of phase. the vocals disapear during the bumper music. the audio sounds like a very low bitrate. Its gurgly sounding.

I didin't think stations liked running the same programming on more than one station in the same market.
the same goes for Sporting New Radio, which is often on both 970 and 930 at same time.WP

Some syndicators will give stations market exclusivity... some don't. Sporting News Radio doesn't care if they are on more than one station in the market. Same goes for Radio America Network and a few others.

Love these programming experts: "Spanish out of place on a News-talk station". Really? It's a little AM in a market of almost 30 stations! Probably making a few bucks where they elsewhere couldn't going after a specific market.
