WPBR Sold

At one time WPBR was licensed to Palm Beach with the call letters WQXT and was co-owned with WWOS-FM which is now WRMF.

I remember that as if it were just forty years ago.

Everyone is talking about CBS’s growth in the market, but what’s really impressing is the growth of 1340 WPBR owned by the Palm Beach Radio Group. Within the two years they bought from Emil Antonoff’s Omni-Lingual Broadcasting (http://rbr.com/west-palm-am-changing-hands/). Talk about the little, 810 watt station that could.

First back in December of last year (http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/87666/fcc-applications-212/) PBRG purchase 96.1 W241AX 230 watts Boca Raton, FL from Reach Communications.

Then in April 2014 (http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/88495/fcc-applications-430/) Palm Beach Radio Group purchased another from Reach Communications: 96.7 W244BK out by Twentymile Bend near Southern Blvd. in West Palm Beach, FL. It’ll be moving via a construction permit to 97.1 with 99 watts at 121.6 meters.

So with that, and 96.1 W241AX Boca Raton, little ‘ol PRB, that barely covered the county, will cover almost all of Palm Beach County.

It’s still a brokered station with Palm Beach Radio group selling off time blocks to Caribbean ethnics, but they’re growing, and they saved a dying radio station. Props for that.
