Although the day signal is decent, at least by Atlanta standards for AM, there is pea-whistle night power - 70 watts. For this reason alone WGUN will not be of interest to any of the major players.
WGUN is no longer brokered time. Georgia Rivers Salva, daughter of WGUN founder Dee Rivers, is actively running the station now and has changed the station to a mix of gospel and preaching. The imaging now calls it "gospel and guidance." She has hired a sales staff and a new morning show starts in a week or so. I'm not convinced a gospel format will be viable with Praise 97.5 around but then......I just unplug the toilets.
I think an "Air America" style format would be the ticket for a station like WGUN. After Al Franken loses his senatorial bid.....maybe he would come back for another radio gig. He was actually decent as a talk host....but politically he was like Sean Hannity....a sillysally with not much intellectual honesty. (Using "intellectual" and "Sean Hannity" in the same sentence is just weird.)
Mike Malloy and his network(can't remember the name)adding Franken and maybe Randi Rhoades, could/might/would get a 1 share.....enough to make some decent money for an AM like WGUN /WCFO/WPBS.
