WPCH Braves games

Has anybody heard how they plan to distribute those games outside of the ATL DMA? The Braves have six state regional TV area.
 
They haven't announced anything yet. I'm guessing either a Braves over-the-air TV Network or partnering with FSN South/SportSouth, though the latter seems less likely.

I live outside Atlanta in Braves territory, and I really want to see these games, so I hope they'll work out something. It would be very frustrating if the games air in Canada (where Peachtree TV is seen in place of TBS) but not in the Braves regional territory.
 
I hope they go the FSN route.

Back in the 90's when the Braves TV Network had 10 or 15 games, we got them on WB58 in Nashville, many times tape delayed after midnight...
 
Has anybody heard anything new on this? If they were doing a local syndication deal I'd think they'd be talking to local stations soon...
 
One rumor is the Peachtree TV games will be on CSS outside of Atlanta.

I am a DirecTV sub, and my cable company doesn't carry CSS.

I hope, if it is true, DirecTV, will pick up CSS.

Unless Congress intervenes (which they are in the process of), CSS will never be on satellite. Comcast and Charter use terrestrial transmission methods to bypass FCC regs regarding the requirement to offer channels it owns to competetors.

DirecTV and other digital cables subscribers can subscribe to the MLB Extra Innings package ($150? per season) and see the WPCH Braves games. You will get the games (in most instances), but you will have to pay.

Ammoritized, $150 would be $25 per month during the season, or $12.50 per month for the whole year (although I believe you have to pay it all in advance).
 
CSS is not distributed via landline.

It is satellite delivered. When Comcast and Time Warner carved up the old Adelphia systems, conditions where placed on the deal. The only RSN they are allowed to withhold from DBS is Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia.
 
Even before then, CSS was still satellite-delivered to cable head ends. However, since Comcast owns Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS), they're not going to sell the rights to broadcast it on DirecTV or Dish since they're competing against it, and that makes it a premium channel (and reason) to stick with cable. You don't throw out the Aces in your hand if you don't want your competitor to win.
 
Maybe, but a) they might set such an outrageous price that the satellite companies would be stupid to buy it, or b) the satellite companies won't want to put a network that directly brands with the cable company. On the other hand, money's money.

They might be carried on FSN South or SportsSouth, since I was in Chicago Pizza for lunch yesterday and SportsSouth is IDing themselves as the "official" Braves network. It looks like it's a "wait and see" deal. Anybody check the Braves website for TV schedules/affiliates?
 
Braves on TV: It appears one possibility for the 45 Peachtree (WPCH) Braves broadcasts to be shown here is off the boards. FSN South, which along with sister network SportSouth will broadcast 106 Braves games this season, will not distribute the Peachtree games to markets outside Atlanta, according to an FSN South official.

"We are committed to providing the most Braves games, the most Braves coverage and the most Braves HD telecasts in 2008," said Jeff Genthner, senior vice president and general manager of FSN South and SportSouth.

"While we repeatedly expressed our interest to also provide distribution of the Atlanta Braves' local broadcast television games seen on Peachtree TV to the largest cable and satellite audience in the Southeast, Turner Sports has decided to pursue other distribution options for these games."

What the "other distribution options" are, I don't know. But I'll keep asking.

Obviously, they're trying to get local syndication deals with the TV stations and create a Braves TV network, similar to the Braves Radio Network. It's a good idea, but I doubt it's going to be very successful this close to Spring Training. The major stations have the budget, but can't trump network programming unlike WSB-TV. The CW and MyNetwork affiliates have the time and need the ratings, but don't have the up front capital it's going to require to have Braves broadcast rights. I mean, these are mainly small-market television stations we're talking about. The most major markets will be Greenville-Spartanburg SC, Columbia SC, Birmingham AL, and maybe Nashville TN. Oh, and Charlotte, too. Otherwise, you're talking about small markets with small budgets. I know that's going to piss my Dad off if he can't get the games in Augusta. I hope he can.
 
Comcast will be showing the games on CSS outside of the Atlanta DMA, inside Braves Territory.

DirecTV will be showing the games as well.
 
I was visiting the folks in Augusta this past weekend on a "working trip", and caught an article in the previous Sunday's edition of the Augusta Chronicle. (http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/030908/bra_190349.shtml) The article was explaing the same thing. Comcast said they do not have a deal as of yet to carry the PCH games in the Augusta area, and they're available on DirecTV only through the MLB Extra Innings package, which carries all MLB games. For consolement, Braves execs diferred fans to the Braves Radio Network affiliates. So, as I mentioned earlier, they're looking to strike a syndication deal with some of the local TV affiliates. It just looks like no one's biting. It's a shame, too, because it might cost a butt-load for the rights, but it could completely bolster the ratings of a CW or My affiliate. The Braves problem is that the're doing this after a mediocre season following their legacy division championship run.

Instead, they decided to offer the games to cable/satellite companies. So, you just have to hope that your provider has picked up the games. On Cable Comcast and MediaCom have picked up the games. DirecTV has picked up the games on satellite.

Of course I have Dish Network at home and Time Warner cable at school... so far I'm out of luck.

If you're really despirate for the games, you'll have to go with mlb.com's streaming package. I know it's streamig audio (which is not too bad) and they have been working on streaming the TV broadcasts as well since broadband has become more popular and stable. But, my question is who'd want to sit at their computer for a full three-hour baseball game? I love the sport, but not THAT much!
