WPCH-FM MACON/WQZY-FM DUBLIN

anyone besides me notice that WQZY-FM Dublin (95.9) and WPCH-FM Macon (96.5) are simulcasting the Peach format? And does anyone know why?

Weird, isn't it? WQZY is owned by State Broadcasting, while WPCH-FM is owned by Clear Channel. Or at least that was the case until CC's recent fire sale. WPCH might have been sold to the "Aloha Station Trust" as part as the FCC mandate to within the requirements for going private. Otherwise, it's anybody guess as to what's going on? ???

It's not WQZY, it's Clear Channel's latest translator station. It is licensed to Rutland (basically the intersection of Hartley Bridge and Houston Road) and has only 250 watts. It is a very strong 250 watts as you can hear in all over Warner Robins, much further than the predicted contour. Should only be up to five miles from site, but weather is affecting things. Considering we share engineers, I can assure you they are legal.

Man, 250 watts couldn't get out of Ingleside when I was at the Big X. ;D

If WPCH is indeed using at translator at 95.9, then there has to be interference from WQZY, right? Plus, such a translator is even listed on Radio-Locator, either.

That's 'cause the X had an antenna ground system that was about as big as a pie plate! If it even existed at all. Is that tower still standing?

I doubt there is much interference from Dublin. I looked at the contours and the 54db contour of Dublin is about Jeffersonville while the 54db from the translator is about halfway between Warner Robins and Jeffersonville. The 54db contour is considered the "interfering" contour. No co-channel's station 54 contour can touch, or overlap, another's. Get out near exit 18 off of I-16 and you might hear some, but most of that out there is sparsly populated and neither station cares about interference out there.

Make sense?

I do disagree with them doing this and I feel WQZY should take legal action. Last year State Broadcasting put up a translator on 96.9 for there AM station 1330. Maybe they should fight fire with fire and move 96.9 to 99.1 just saying.

When Al Stehle was at WNEX, he remembers them getting reception reports from New Zealand. That was, at least in part, due to the street construction ripping out much of the ground system, giving WNEX a heckuva sky wave signal.

Yes, that tower is still there.

I do TV, not radio, but...

I thought in Georgia, the interfering contour was the 40dBu, and the protected contour (where the full-power station is entitled to protection) is the 60dBu. 54dBu is the protected contour for Class B stations. (of which there are none in Georgia)

Note also that the contours are calculated differently for interfering and protected. The interfering contour is 40dBu 10% of the time, while the protected contour is 60dBu half the time.

http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2009/octqtr/47cfr73.215.htm . Refutation by engineers experienced in allocations work is encouraged.

I have not run any contours on either of the stations in question.
