WPCH TV?

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle and the AJC, WTBS is dropping those calls in October for WPCH. The local "OTA" version of TBS is getting a "makeover and a movie," and will henceforth be known at "Peachtree TV." Nationally, TBS will continue on cable and satellite. Since Clear Channel stripped what was once "Lite 94.9" of the WPCH call sign, it has been "parked" first in the Augusta area and now in Gray/Macon. Can Time-Warner use the calls on channel 17 without CC's blessing?

More importantly, can Time-Warner use those calls without Curtis In PA's blessing?

Looks like Turner may gearing up to sell ch. 17 tv as local over the air broadcasting is not in their best interest.

When would you consider WTBS's heyday: During the Bill Tush era, when the Braves started winning, or more recent times?

I worked for ch. 17 for 13 years and really enjoyed those days. I was actually there when it was WTCG then WTBS leaving in 1991. It was the most fun I had in television.

You know folks, we have a TV board for Atlanta: http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,74893.0.html

WPCH-FM is going into the Aloha Trust. I don't think a company can own ALL call suffixes, can they? I've seen -FMs picked up from AMs owned by different companies.

Agreed. And Gilligan, the Brady Bunch and Sanford & Son...

Bill Tush's news show was classic TV. Wish they'd release those on DVD.

Bill Tush, Andy Griffith and when the Braves were "America's Team," even if they played like a team from Mudville.

Lest we forget about "Night Tracks"! Clips of this show were at Youtube last time I looked...

And remember when TBS was notorious for starting their shows at :05 and :35 past the hour. Trivia question: Does anyone know why Ted Turner made it as such?

So that his station's listings would almost always be listed in their own "time" in TV listings.

No..it was so viewers could still see the "whole" show on TBS after surfing all the other available channels....

CC will have to give their blessing. I don't see any reason why they would not, since CC is getting out of TV.

WGCL-TV had to get permission from Sarkes Tarzian owned WGCL-AM in Bloomington, IN to share calls.

Sharing calls between owners wasn't legal until 1996. This is why many heritage call signs have been blown up. You could spread calls out between different cities (KCBS-AM in San Francisco and KCBS-FM/KCBS-TV in Los Angeles), but not owners. After Telecom '96 (I don't know if this was part of the legislation or a seperate FCC rule change around that time), callsigns could be split in any way.

In 1978, There could not be a WTBS-TV owned by Ted Turner and a WTBS-FM owned by MIT. So that is why WTBS-FM is now WMBR.

30 days after WTBS becomes WPCH-TV (or just WPCH, if 96.5 Macon decides on a new callsign for any reason), the WTBS callsign will become available for anyone who wants it. If the kids at MIT are as smart as they claim to be...

amlover, I some questions for you, When you worked at WTBS 17, "Do you remember the late night Friday and Saturday Music Video show (Night Tracks)?" It ran from 1983-92, and it had six spinoffs, (America's Music Tracks), (Chartbusters), (Power Play), (Power Play Dancin'), (Power Hits) and (New Alternative Express), if you remember any of those can you please tell me about them and do all shows still exist?" (Night Tracks) was my favorite show to watch on WTBS and later just TBS.

I remember this show with Jan Hooks, Bill Tush, it was a spoof of souther gospel. If anyone remembers that please post about it, I remember it was hilarious. Hooks was amazing. This was when it was still WTCG.
Thanks

You're right! It was hilarious. I remember Jan Hook's portrayal of a TV evangelist.....
"Send me-a your moneeee"
Great skits before the days of SNL. (Jan went on to SNL for awhile).
