WPCV "97 Country" Aircheck - Evenings - December, 1991

As I continue to scour the "Basement Archives" for previously unreleased airchecks, I found this from about a week before Christmas.

At the time, WPCV targeted Orlando as their secondary market. I believe they even had a sales office located somewhere in the metro, didn't they?

WPCV did have an Orlando sales office located on John Young Parkway about a half mile down the road from WDBO/WWKA/WCFB. I believe John Newman was the Orlando sales manager in charge of Orlando sales, marketing and promotions.

Huge signal. I had no problem hearing them in Ocala, even with cheap radios. I'm guessing that with WSKY now pumping 50kW from the new location at MiCanopy, that's no longer the case (?)

WPCV is spotty in Ocala although there are certain areas in the Ocala National Forest where WPCV comes in very clear. Also, since you were in Ocala, WPCV has moved its tower further South. In 1991 WPCV had 1,000 feet near Haines City. Now the tower is located approximately 10 miles South of Haines City which also has an effect on signal coverage in the Ocala area. Originally the plan was to increase tower height to 1,500 feet at the new location to preserve its full class C status. For whatever reason, Hall Communications was unable to get proper zoning clearance and FAA approval for 1,500 at the new location. However, to the best of my knowledge, Hall did move the WPCV tower South of Haines City at a height slightly less that the desired 1,500 feet.
