WPEG/WRFX both top 3 in their formats

Interesting insight into the top 10 performing stations in the different formats. Very in depth. WPEG and WRFX were both #3 in PPM nationwide during the Spring in Urban Mainstream and Classic Rock, respectively. I wouldn’t be surprised if WBAV, WKKT or WEND appear on that list when they do Urban AC, Country or Alternative.

they did a country list, and from what I recall WKKT was on it.
That was for Fall 2021, and they covered 12+ numbers and broke it down by market size. WKKT and WPEG were both #1 in the top 25 markets according to the earlier articles that were released in March.

These articles are Spring 2022 numbers, for all of PPM, and go a lot more in depth into the demos and other listener characteristics.

The numbers for an HD2 in Orlando are spectacular. I assume that's a translator. It said most of the listeners were Hispanic, and I doubt that many have HD2 receivers.

Classic rock at work? I assume that's blue collar work. Who could possibly do office work with classic rock?

Both Beasley and iHeart have amazingly strong clusters in Charlotte. Exclude 96.1 for iHeart and 103.7 and (somewhat) 95.1 for Beasley, but everything else is rock solid. WEND has done a remarkable job with alternative over the years as the format has struggled in other markets and even nationwide.

No, it says 26.7% of the listeners to that particular Urban station were Hispanic. That is not "most".

WSOC's biggest issue is their incompetent PD. They were near the top of the rankings consistently until the end of 2020. I remember WSOC was #1 6+, 12+, 25-54, 18-49 and 18-34 around September/October of that year. The ratings have been on the decline since early 2021, when John Reynolds assumed the PD role. Almost 2 years later and there's been no improvement in the ratings. They continue to get worse. Nothing else changed in January 2021. Same jocks, same APD, same community events. The only thing that changed was the PD. Process of elimination. I don't know why Beasley hasn't figured out that it's not working

WRFX and WEND got a new PD last year, and he has really improved both stations. WEND's ratings have never been stronger. Same thing with WKKT. The new PD has really reenergized that station.

WHQC's biggest problem is their morning show. They've been on the decline since Ace and TJ left.

Classic rock is the soundtrack at many a garage. Just a few notes of certain songs remind me of anxious morning hours in the waiting room at the Firestone shop, wondering how much that vibration I felt while driving the previous day was going to cost me.

A lot of classic rock stations aren’t much more aggressive than classic hits or even AC who has no problem playing Def Leppard or Journey. I’ve heard classic rock in a lot of offices at many desks.

The odd situation with CHR in Charlotte is neither CHR is doing that great. 95.1 is ahead of 96.1, but even theirs aren’t much to brag about. I definitely don’t see either leaving the format but you’re right, Ace and TJ were a big boon for them and helped them start beating 95.1 frequently by the mid 2010s.

Maybe Ace and TJ will help boost WNKS since returning to 95.1. And their good strong signal may attract more regional listeners that don't even figure into CLT ratings. Comes in strong and clear in Spartanburg, along with 96.1, 101.9, and 107.9.

And would 96.1 remain CHR and try to turn things around? Or flip to new format? I thought iHeart does good job with CHR in other markets nationwide.
