WPEN AM show gone..

Recapping something I saw on Philly.com;
WPEN is bringing in ESPN Radio's syndicated "Mike & Mike" to its 6 to 9 a.m. slot starting April 1.
The current 950 morning show featuring Glenn Foley and Michael Bradley will end, with Foley leaving the station and Bradley "hopefully" staying on in a different role.

Too bad...I was pulling for and trying to listen to the AM show on 950. But I never could stomach Foley. I would prefer a local show but almost anything is better that 610. I just want sports talk...not another version of a 'Stern' show, talk of food eating contests for weeks on end etc!

If you want 100% sports talk go to the internet radio for that and checkout 77TheThrill on Nowlive.com for Phillies coverage this weekend postgame shows at 4pm.

Could next week be when Philly says so long to smooth jazz, and sports moves to 97.5 FM? Can the talk radio monopoly that is 1210 be challenged?

Do you think they'd be cutting the budget on local programming if they were eyeing a move to FM?

Couldn't be any worse than the money they're likely losing with Smooth Jazz on 97.5... Besides, while I hate to see local talent shown the door in favor of national fare as much as the next person, Mike & Mike at least are a proven commodity.

Have not heard Mike and Mike in a while...might have been when I was in DC a few years back. If I recall they had much less (if any) of that 'Sternish' element but it did appear to me that they really scripted many of the bits that they wanted to appear as 'off the cuff'.
Just my opinion and as I said, it has been a while and my memory falters as I age.
I had a dream/hope they might bring Bruno back to the market in am drive.....last I heard he was still a free agent (yet again).

Outside of Mike and Mike, I think ESPN radio stinks. JT the Brick, sure he hates Philly fans, but at least he has the gall to show it on air. Plus, his callers are better. Too bad they cant find a way to bring Tony Bruno back as a local, now that he's gone from SNR.

Will this mean 1440 WNPV will have to give up the carriage of ESPN? If so, I hope they switch to FSR.

Another big change: Laura Nachman is reporting that Mike Missanelli is returning to Philly as WPEN's new afternoon drive host, which will move Jody MacDonald to middays. God help us.

Hey, at least it's local. Mike Missanelli is one of the few known local Philadelphia sports talk hosts that doesn't currently work for WIP.

They just added Dan Patrick. Are they going to keep him?

Their schedule looks like:
Mike & Mike 6-9
Dan Patrick 9-12
Jody Mac 12-3
Mike Missanelli 3-7

Or, perhaps, Stephen A. Smith from 3-4 and Missanelli from 4-7.

I'll give just about anything a shot as an alternative to WIP, hell I tried and tried but just could not stomach Foley.......but please no Stephen A!
Does anyone know what is up with Tony Bruno? Is he even working?

Aindik, that schedule probably will be the new schedule going forward (no hard info here, just my speculation). It's worth a try--but promote the station, for Pete's sake.

GM promotes the hell out of every station they own (even JJZ to an extent), but not PEN. WHY???
