WPEN Ratings.

I always post on the New York Board and the NYRMB. When WPEN was a Standards station, I listened to 950AM from time to time when I was able to pick up the signal where I live in South Queens, NYC.

Since Greater Media dropped Standards from WPEN, how many different formats they had? And from the ratings (from what I see) WPEN had better numbers when they were playing Sinatra and Ella.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

There overall numbers arent good, but they are gaining in the demos. WIP is trending older and PEN is getting the younger audience. If PEN stays with it, in 2 years they might over-take WIP.

"If PEN stays with it, in 2 years they might over-take WIP..."

It will NEVER happen unless Greater Media spends money, and they are a CHEAP company. Both stations sound old and dull to these ears, then again I have not listened to either one in a couple of weeks, but I can't imagine the programming has suddenly become exciting overnight. There's nothing compelling to make either station 'must listen" radio even for this die-hard sports fan living in Philly. Hey programmers, how about some original, non on-air content, exclusive podcasts, for example, that you could only hear from the station's websites and are not subject to broadcast requirements.

I've grown tired of "political talk" on AM and when not listening to an NPR program on FM via WHYY or Classical (daytime) on WRTI, I've been tuning in more often to both WWTX 1290 the Ticket in Wilmington (Fox sports radio and local sports talk) and 950 WPEN ESPN. I've tried WIP, for my ear, it isn't as interesting. So both WWTX and WPEN may be getting some boost in ratings (in their respective markets), possibly from others like me, who've grown bored with the constant ranting of AM talk radio.

Should be interesting to see the ratings difference after the simulcast with 97.5 FM...

As in "How low can they go - together ...?"
