WPFM Tribute Site on the air!!

One asks (well, actually 2 asks)--- will the tapes of one semi-livid RI poster ever be made public? That'll have to be formatted in multiple-o-ustreams in HD. (JW -- there is patently no truth to this allegation, just posted for laughs and giggles. Promise.) Rob - keep the cards and letters coming, best
to just use pencils and crayons. At this point, don't use anything with electrical cords ever again, except of course Mapquest. How far is hell? Cause if
you cause CCENG to strobey, I mean stroke out, it won't be a pretty ride to there, regardless of whether it's with or without that mule.

(Sorry to those who haven't read enough of these posts on here to get what the .... I am talking about, Charlie might get most of this attempt at humor.
Deep breath, chill. Stella Pilsner blend)

after replacing a router, computer and automation program, I feel the PFM Tribute site is now stable. the music is chosen at random so the jingles and sweepers may not match the music..however, there are now 800 titles in rotation. Enjoy.

Site is still off the air and NO I've never played with cassette tapes, mini disks, DAT or open reel in my life.. no sir..

Rob, there is no 24/7 guarantee as I do not control the Ustream engineering department. Besides, this site is for FUN. It's not the only thing I do all day.
Riddle me this. Why do you feel the need to post every time it is down? Life is too short to be so negative in almost every post on this site. Lighten up dude.
::)

Ahhhhh! A refreshing post from Thegreat108wpfm....he feels my pain in the ass with Rob...Tibbs, I am not alone after all!

The Ustream server knocks our station offline at least once a day. Don't know why?

Does anyone have anything from WPFM's modern rock/alternative era, I believe around 1994?

we all wouldn't mind hearing that launch, ts/ It's nice to know that people get "upset" when the site is down. Means it
means something. And when <zero <zero finally launched their website after a decade of teasing, it was nice to hear pfm
streaming for two songs before it had to turn it off for good. Thanks for the real WPFM site.

thanks for the support Great 108ers. Back from vacation and the site is up and running. Former staffers have reached out offering aircheck tapes. If you have them, hit me with an email, [email protected].

Little John Walker hit me with a message last week. Hope to get some of the old Rag Time news tapes asap.

I like it...no I LOVE IT!!!
I worked in PCB back in the 90's on Island 106, but I was growing up in the 80's in the midwest and this is why I got into radio...FUN FUN FUN!!!

All I have to say is WOW. I am truly amazed that I am included on so many posts about Radio in Panama City. I am truly honored. Let me say that I am truly saddened with the passing of Preston, I worked with him for many years. Also the passing of Stan Waters, he worked on PFM in the early 80's. Kelly Mcann as well. I left Radio in 1995. I thought it was time to settle down an raise my child in one area. I am an engineering type. I work for the Bay County utillities as an electronic technician. I can't say that I have missed Radio. Until now. I have fond memories of the days at PFM. I will see if I can dig up pix or tapes, have not really kept up with them.. It would be great to hear from Skip, Jeff, Mike, Mattie. Does anyone remeber the staff in the late 70's. They are the guys that got me interested in Radio. Panama Jack Crabbe, Captian Big, John Danrzer, Simon Strong ( Mike Rockwell), Brian (The Brain) Christian. Anyone remember Ruth Sasser, she did middays. Any way thank you so much, I am truly honored by your kindness.

I gotta say this site is great. So many memories. I grew up in Panama City and WPFM was part of my inspiration to become a DJ. I never worked there because I didn't get into radio until 1995, but I did work at cross town rival Island 106. Is it just me, or does it seem like WPFM's decine began in 1992 when it came back on the air after the FCC shut them down?

As far as I can remember, these were the station slogans / nicknames:

??-1992 "WPFM - The Great 108"

1992-1993 - "Power 108"

1993 (for about a month) "Kiss FM"

1993-1996 - "The Zone"

1996-1998 - "Mix 108"

1998-1999 - "Rock 108"

1999-2004 - "Hot 107.9"

2004-Present - "108 'PFM"

I moved to Pensacola in 1996 so from 1996 onward I'm only going by what I can remember when I would visit Panama City.

What memories. Keep up the good work on the site.

(I have some old aircheck tapes from WPFM back from 1986-1991 I'm going to have to find.)

I have in my hot little hand some airchecks of Bird and Lou and will be transferring them to mp3 ....they are on cassette ....so I can send them to the keeper of the WPFM tribute site. Been kind of busy for the past week and I hope to get them to him next week.

I worked mornings with the Birdman in Tallahassee before he died. Funny guy, great radio man and worked his ass off to the last.
I remember spending mornings in our studio overlooking John Knox Road across from the Tallahassee Mall, watching the Parisian store being built. On rainy days we'd play a game between breaks - name a song and the first letter of the last word in the title is your start to another song title, i.e. "Love to Love You" leads to "Yesterday."
We'd do that with artists, too, but that game could end too fast.

Great station and GREAT site!!! I was lucky and worked 7-12m in the mid 80's...Looking back it was the BEST station I ever worked at!!! Things change and so.....Dang I miss PFM!!!!

It would be nice to rewind Front Beach Road back to the mid-80's, as well. Sad, now just another road full of property line to property
line rectangle condo towers. Never know, The Great 108 may return one day...once Double OOO decides they weren't the radio experts
they believed they were and scream PCB uncle.

Was this the operation owned by Gil Moore & Bill Brown (Bromo Communications) back in the '80s?

bill and gil owned it in the 70's but in its hay-day, PFM was owned by Barry Turner....someone correct me if I am wrong
