WPFM Upgrade

Kind of werid when a country station 103.5 in Panama City doing a Club La Vela nights

The country station is simply a part of a ONE TIME country event at LaVela, which isn't strange at all. LaVela has many different genre-themed rooms (rock, top 40, dance/house, etc). No country room but no reason a country event can't happen there.

They won't be doing the "live broadcasts" from the club during Spring Break which is what you're talking about. Those will be on either Island or PFM, which one I havent heard yet.

I'm assuming their CP only gives them a few month's time to get a move on. Maybe before spring hits.

It gives them three years, as the CP expires 1/22/2016.

I am pretty sure they plan to get it completed much sooner!

Any chance WPFM doesn't plan on upgrading at all? Could this CP just be in place to keep another project from happening? 107.5, 107.7, or 107,9 anywhere within 200 miles looking to make a modification? Could this minor upgrade CP help WPFM get the LPFM off of 107.9 in Tally?

Never mind, for a moment I thought this was Atlanta with Cumulus, Clear Channel, Cox, and Radio One all trying to one up each other... one listener at a time.

I really just thought about the 10+ year old Biloxi market WOSP 103.1 C1 CP that's on file with the FCC. They don't plan on building it out and they don't plan to sell the station. Go figure. The FCC lets WOSP sit on a ton of spectrum for over a decade but won't let Clear Channel build a 2000 ft tower near Holley, FL to set up another 100kw WFLA talker on any frequency Fidel Castro sees fit.

Nah, this move won't stop anything else from happening that would have happened before. It's really barely a move, at all--a couple miles down 231, and the facility stays a C-1. As others have observed, antenna height is generally preferable to ERP, but since the Panhandle has no mountains, anyway, the extra 500 feet in height just allows Powell to pay a lower power bill to generate the same coverage. Maybe lower rent, too. My guess is that there will be no audible difference for the average listener.

This is a very different scenario than the 107.3 move from Cantonment to Robertsdale (?) and accompanying power drop. By just moving down the street, WPFM essentially keeps the same coverage contours they've had for years.

WOSM may eventually build the CP. They have at least bought the tower pieces needed. Are you referring to the Holley, FL next to Navarre? There is no way on earth that the FCC would allow that to happen! Due to FAA requirements, you can't build anything over 500 anywhere near Eglin AFB. The tallest tower near Navarre is below 100 meters

Yep, that Holley, FL. I didn't know there were two. It's crazy enough that I have two Midway, FLs to deal with.
I had to think real hard to come up with Holley but I guess any town south of Eglin works.

All parts of an inside joke.
