There is a discussion about FM talk on the R-I Atlanta board. The consensus is that whoever goes FM talk first in ATL will win big, as long as the station is non-political.
I mentioned that FM talk stations that aren't political such as all the FREE FMs CBS has all over the country have terrible ratings, they are not only not winning, they are in last place.
I also brought up WPGB, by far the highest rated FM talk station in the U.S (of any large radio market). The only other FM talker in the top 10 is WTKK/Boston which like WPGB is political and not "Hot Talk".
Yet the posts kept coming saying that FM talk would win big as long as the station stays away from politics. One poster said that only radio geeks like right wing stations like WPGB while everyone else wants a non-political FM talker. Talk about denial, this is the exact OPPOSITE of realiy. It's the radio geeks who have this fantasy that non-political FM talk will be huge, in the real world political/issue/current event driven talk is what works.
