WPHI

Is WPHI actually broadcasting an HD signal?
I don't believe they are.
Fine with me keep it off I'll continue to get WMGM and WAEB-FM lol.
but it does say HD in the TOH...
Thanks
John

They are not in HD on 103.9. If you want to hear them in HD, tune to WIP HD2.

Another question, any chance they're changing the call letters to KYW-FM? Does Entercom have the right to do that or does CBS still own the rights to the heritage CBS call letters? I guess Entercom has the grandfathered rights to the ones they currently have, KYW, WBZ, KDKA, WJZ, WCBS, KCBS, WBBM, WWJ, WCCO on the current radio stations?

I would have assumed if Audacy had the rights to KYW-FM, they would have used them by now. Quite possible that KYW-TV tecnhically had them first, so they have the right of refusal (and after KYW-AM split with KYW-TV for NBC10 for weather and other things, I doubt KYW-TV would be too willing.).

But other than quickly spoken at the top of hour, it really makes no difference if it's WPHI-FM or KYW-FM

All of this was spelled out in the sale agreement between CBS and Entercom.

Some of the other AM news simulcasts (such as WBBM and KCBS) have different call letters for the FMs.

That's more because the FM versions of both stations already existed. WBBM-FM is B96, one of Chicago's CHRs, and KCBS-FM is down in LA as Jack-FM. Also how WSB-AM in Atlanta used WSBB for their FM because WSB-FM already exists as B98.5.

Could Audacy have moved the WBBM or KCBS calls over to the FM signal of their news station and given the other stations new calls? Sure. But again, other than the legal ID, it doesn't matter.
