WPHL-TV drops MY from its branding. Its now called PHL17

On October 4th, 2010, WPHL reverted to the 1987-95 PHL17 name, dropping "my" from the name. The logo is still similar to my network tv's logo. Info: Wikipedia.

There are billboards all over Philly and South Jersey promoting this dance radio station.

I noticed the logo change the other day. The old one had "my" in the top half, with phl 17 in the lower half. The new one has phl on the tophalf, and 17 on the lower.

Yet they still use the gray/blue square scheme of My Network TV's logo:

It's only a matter of time before the website URL changes, too.

The station still carries YOUR Philadelphia Phillies.

I guess the "my" meant Randy Michaels.

The station just needs to go back to its early 90's schedule, with Gilligan's Island, cartoon blocks...

I know, the station was so great during the early 90's. It peaked right before becoming WB17, and then bam the programing just went downhill with talk shows replacing sitcom reruns. They were also Philadelphia's movie station, back when that meant something.

I should note that WPIX in New York has long dropped their identity as "CW 11," being known as "PIX 11." WWOR in New York still goes by "My 9," for now... maybe they'll bring back the "Universal 9" moniker...

FOX is the one that came up with My __ for its MyNetwork, and then the affiliates followed. It would be more surprising if FOX were to detach that from its owned stations including WWOR.

I have seen WPHL recently air one of those classic jingles as a tease for the "vintage" section of its website.
