WPHT 1210 AM, a 1.4 in the latest ratings

I will. But I have a feeling that some big news might come down with 1210 in the coming days and weeks.

Nobody listens to the Phillies on 1210 anymore, unless they're in the building during the game or they're in that small part of the market that isn't served by WIP-FM.

The Phillies are carrying the station, Not Nova, St Joe's and Temple. I think that CBS wants the talk shows to carry the station in the ratings, not the Phillies.

I prefer the Phillies on 1210, because it's the sound I'm used to.

The FM audio sounds fake.

And no, I don't watch the telecasts in black & white.

Now, if they could only win a few games....

Sorry, when I said "nobody" I meant "nobody except maybe a few people who post here." ;)

But yeah, you're right about the audio. Something is off about it. They need to get whoever engineers the Eagles games in there to fix it. The Eagles have sounded fantastic on 94.1 for over a decade.

1.4 is no surprise. When you have the nation's top talk show hosts and decide to dump them to be "live and local" you get what you deserve.

Only a few radio geeks care where a host sits and does the show.

With all baseball games on tv now, the Phillies are going to have less impact and radio ratings than in the past. If WPHT thinks the Fightins are going to save them, they are dumber than we think.

You say "with all the baseball games on TV now" like that's new.

WPHT's ratings used to go up substantially every baseball season, as recently as 2011. Baseball still brings ratings on the radio in markets where the team is popular. It just won't get ratings for WPHT anymore because almost all the listening is on WIP-FM.

Agreed.

There are still some here that will contend that IQ's much higher ratings are empty and that 1210 has better ad rev. It is confounding and supported by zero evidence. Surprised those people haven't hit the board with their usual statements.

1210 may have "better ad revenue," if only because it has more inventory to sell running all local.

But revenue is only part of the profit equation.

No. Actually today it is the only thing that matters. Unfortunate. But true.

But believing the top listened talk shows in the country moving to an FM home wouldn't impact 1210 is crazy.

There are a lot of problems at PHT obviously but the biggest problem is the flagship show with Smerconish. I could care less that he supports Obama. The problem with the show is that it is dreadfully boring now. Maybe his ratings are fantastic. I suspect that is not the case but proving it is impossible.

I agree with you. Imagine if CBS were to pull the plug on WPHT, would it be big news, just like what happened when WCAU-AM was history back in 1990?

>>>1.4 is no surprise. When you have the nation's top talk show hosts and decide to dump them to be "live and local" you get what you deserve.<<<

Well, several CBS stations around the country don't run any syndicated talk shows and they have the best Talk ratings in their markets. In Pittsburgh, an FM station runs Rush, Hannity, etc. Yet KDKA leads WPGB. In Minneapolis, WCCO leads KTCN, which runs Rush, Hannity, etc. KMOX St. Louis does have Rush, but no other daytime syndicated shows. It leads in the Talk ratings.

But as I pointed out in a different post, those CBS Talk stations in those cities don't have KYW to deal with, too. KDKA, WCCO and KMOX are all the news leaders in their cities, even though they have Talk shows most of the day. Even people who don't care for their Talk shows still listen for the news, weather and traffic on those stations. WPHT is at a real disadvantage because it has to survive ONLY on Talk. People in Philadelphia hit 1060 when they just want news.

But I don't think CBS is ready to give up on a 50,000 watt Talk station in a top 10 market. I'd guess they'll try moving some people around or getting rid of the lowest rated hosts for new people. They're not going to change the format.

These days, you'll never know.
