WPHT 1210 HD audio

The iboc HD audio sidebands has been off on 1210 wpht since July 3rd. I don't know if its a tech issue or something is up at the station that we don't know about. It is very unusual for the HD audio to be off for this long period of time on 1210 . in the past, they would usually fix the problem quickly .

It's technical. They have either an issue with the HD generator, or their main TX in general and are running on a backup.

OR

They forgot to pay ibiquity for the bill to run the HD and it's off for that reason.

Uh-oh. They're outta money, they're gonna go dark, and everything will finally be right with one little slice of the world. hahahaha. J/K!

Haha you'd be surprised how often stations don't pay the fee to run HD and it's off! It's a terrible way to make stations want to carry HD, but hey!

The annual fee is minimal. It's comparable, in a radio station budget, to the cost of a dog license in a family budget.

Because of the lack of success of AM HD and the lack of receivers, most AM stations that at one time employed HD have dropped it. Those that still run it generally only have HD installed on the main transmitter, so if they are on backup HD is off.

And many stations with early AM HD systems are seeing them fail now, and not replacing them.
