WPHT 1210 REFUSES TO DROP Rush Limbaugh

In the latest round of bizarre media behavior, WPHT 1210 AM has acknowledged that it has no intentions whatsoever to remove Rush Limbaugh.

I am personally surprised by the fact that they are going to stick with him though his sponsors continue to disappear, women vets want his program removed from Armed Forces Radio and many other stations are dropping his program including hot talker, KPUA.

It's likely that Limbaugh is going to bring down ratings, big time for the network.

no

If someone was smart here with all this Rush crap thats going on now, they'd be getting Mike Huckabee in position to get him on the air. Its time for Rush to go, his act has worn out. Rush has done stupid stuff before to get people to listen but this time he went a little TOO far over the edge and it blew up. I hope WPHT dumps him.

I hope 1210 dumps him too and then Clear Channel comes in and programs a bock in Philly from 9am to 9pm consisting of Beck, Rush, Sean, and Mark Levin. I am streaming 1200 out of Boston right now on my iPhone because a preseason Phillies game is on WIP-FM AND WPHT right now. Why can't a day Phillies game stay on 94 only?

While I was checking out a radio station nerar Boston, I heard today's (Tuesday, 03/06) commentary by Huckabee. He wants to have college graduates who wish to work for the Federal Government to put in one year working at a real food-growing farm, to get their hands dirty, before they can get behind the desk of a Federal agency! Wasn't this a theory advanced by Mao Tse-tung (retro spelling) when he was dictator of Communist China?

Bill,

The reason 1210 does the Phillies day games is billing and the team has an audience on radio-a big one. Outside of Sid Mark, they're the ratings puller and the station's lifeline.

KPUA is a station in a tiny market that covers less than 80 thousand persons in its 5 mV/m coverage. Not a good example. Are there, in fact, any others=

It's likely that Limbaugh is going to bring down ratings, big time for the network.

First, there is no network. There is a syndicator. Stations may take several programs from them, or just one. And they may run it font and back ended with a wide variety of other programs, some even from different syndicators. And talk behaves a bit like TV, where indvidual shows carry themselves and have somewhat isolated effect on the rest of the shows.

And then, and speaking as a past programmer of a very large market talker, I'd expect the controversy to benefit ratings, not drag them down.

Huckabee would definitely be much easier competition than Rush has been over the past couple of decades. ;)

A lot of R's that I know now think Limbaugh is a liability. If enough sponsors drop him and people stop listening, he will be off the air. If they hang in and people keep listening, he won't go anywhere. From a personal perspective, I think his act has grown stale.

As long as he has a contract with Premiere, his CC-owned affiliates won't be dropping him. They have to pay him through 2016, on the air or not, unless they buy him out of course.

His act got stale years ago, and I quit listening regularly when he became an apologist for Dick Cheney. I thought he'd perk up now that the opposition is in the White House, but sadly, he got even worse.

Once, he was funny and entertaining even if I didn't agree with him (about 50% of the time). Now, he's just a bitter old man. Once his contract's up, he should retire.

Won't the audience go over to WIP-FM to hear Phillies? Even the WIP sports talk is on the air on 610 but no Rush on 1210. With the push for FM sports, why not just put the Phillies on WIP-FM unless there is a conflict (at least during the day). I'm sure there's going to be times when the Phillies will have to be on 1210 only due to conflicts.

Unless one of the two indoor teams has a playoff conflict, I doubt the Phils will be knocked off of FM. I doubt the Eagles will bump the Phillies off since the Eagles are on 610 as well.

I bet the Eagles are the No. 1 seed on 94, at least for regular season games (probably not for preseason games).

Oh I think even the pre-season will take precedence over the Phillies. Eagles are still the #1 team in the city.

Probably right. The Eagles are the only team who had a contract to air on 94.1 FM before it was WIP. I'm sure they take precedence for that reason even if for no other reason.
