WPHT new lineup?

A well-deserved demotion.
It'll be interesting to see if anyone clears him. 990's lineup is all their own Salem-distributed propagandists. Who else will pick up his show, and be willing to pay for it? That tiny stick of WFYL that literally has no listeners? What was that new uber-right wing station that signed on in Chester? Would iHeart dump the Gambler just to clear their syndicated shows?

Or will the Philly market just forget about Hannity? A far cry from when they used him as a 24/7 stunt before launching WWIQ.

Maybe, maybe, 990 gets permission to replace whatever dumpster fire they’re running at 6 with a delayed Hannity. Or at 9. No way they don’t run that afternoon traitor in pattern.

I would think being able to clear nearly all of their Fox Sports Radio lineup is a better deal for iH than making way for Hannity and then having to fill an entire schedule around him. But I do imagine they're (well, Premiere is) pushing for some sort of clearance in the market. Rich did explicitly mention that Dana Loesch and Levin would still be on after his 3-7 show so... maybe buried after Levin?

I wonder if Greg Kayal will take the conversation more towards sports and less towards divisive politics.

You're seeing this with Len Berman at WOR.

The problem with national shows like Hannity is they become more irrelevant in cities like Philadelphia. They're preaching to the rural areas like State College and Gettysburg.

He may, but it’s not like there isn’t a template for sports talk types to simply move into the hard right talking point regurgitation mode. I’m not sure that emphasizing sports helps them when WIP really has that cornered (sure, there’s the Fanatic, but thinking more within the cluster).

I doubt it. He knows what plays with the audience. They didn't hire him for sports. They hired him to be a conservative talker and tell the audience what they want to hear when they tune in.

And the press release, for what that’s worth, mentions trading sports for politics. But the press release also mentions being the first time the station is live 6am to 7pm. Not sure if that tracks. When 106.9 came along to be the rousing success it was, 1210 was local at least all day, and I thought had a local 6-9 show.

When introducing him this morning, the very first way Zeoli excitedly described him was "not woke" and Kayal said what made him want to shift his focus away from sports talk was sports talk hosts siding with Colin Kaepernick, so it's not being sold as having any sports lean.

Hannity .............. OUT!

Honestly, given how crowded the conservative radio talk show field is, I wasn't surprised by this situation. However, he can still be heard in parts of the Delaware Valley live on the 1,000-watt WILM (1450) in Wilmington. That station is owned by iHeartMedia.

"Parts" is doing some heavy lifting there. Their signal barely scrapes Philly city limits. He's also heard on iHeart's AM Talkers in Reading (tiny signal) and Allentown (somewhat bigger signal).

Sure with streaming today, anyone can listen from anywhere, but how much of the target audience for the format is or knows how to stream?

It’s possible it’s more than we might joke about. A good chunk, no…almost certainly. But the tech has gotten easier and people comfortable with it have continued to age into the primary audience.
