WPHT Received in Port aux Basques - 12/5/2012

I was getting a couple of things out of the car (and it is raining right now) and I was then playing with the radio dials again. Went from local 1230 down a couple of spots to 1210 and ended up with WPHT Philadelphia, PA. 50,000 watts of Conservative Talk and I heard "Buzz Something" so I came back inside and did a quick Google job. Also heard a mention of Allen Iverson (former 76ers player). Nailed my first ever Philadelphia catch.

Personal note: I really didn't have time to check for anything else in general due to my personal errands that needed to be taken care of. My intent was to take a CD out of the car to bring inside to extract some tracks off of.

Edit: I thought I heard something on AM 650 but I did not manage to make anything out of it, whether it was CKGA Gander, WSM Nashville, or some splatter from CBN on one side, WFAN on the other. Will take another attempt soon to figure out what it might be.

Considering there is already a 10 kW station on 1210 in Newfoundland, that's a great catch, to dodge the other signal.

1060 should have KYW there. Try it out!

Not necessarily... KYW-1060 is nulled to the Northeast to protect 1050 in NYC about 90 miles away... If you drive NE out of Philadelphia toward NYC, KYW's signal drops off rather quickly. I would imagine KYW is also protecting the 1060 in the Boston area, as well.

And that's why I always get WQOM 1060 Boston. Sportsradio 610 WIP (which carried some Flyers games when FM signal was in conflict with other events) would be an impossible catch despite it not being Clear Channel (but I'm game for trying).

Oh, and most nights, CHUM AM Toronto and WEPN AM NYC keep fighting a lot for my attention (TSN Radio in English, ESPN Deportes in Spanish) in much the same way CFRB AM Toronto and WINS AM NYC do. (Neither 1050 signal listed here is a Clear Channel.)

I wonder if *I* caught CHUM last night (for the first time in almost 35 years) from south FL, but I doubt it. There was sports talk in English & mention of the Yankees. I thought that WEPN went Spanish. I am sure there are other sports-talk 1050's now on flea power in the USA.

Yeah, I can confirm that too from all the times I went with my parents up the New Jersey turnpike to visit the relatives in north Jersey when I was growing up.

My father always liked to listen to KYW and it was usually unlistenable by the time we got to around exit 9 which was still a ways to go until our destination of exit 14 C in Jersey City.

Yet, I can sometimes hear KYW at night here in Tampa.
