WPHT - What happened to their audio quality?

I moved out of the Philly area over five years ago and had occasion to be back in the past week. Wanting to relive some old memories, I tuned to 1210 for a Phillies game one evening and was appalled at the audio quality. But it was just baseball and I figured that the line was bad or something.

Then I remembered that the games were also on 94.1 FM and tuned there. It was delayed - but much cleaner sounding.

Next day, just to double-check, I tuned into 1210 again and was greeted with the same, gritty, annoying audio quality. Are they having technical difficulties, or do they sound this way all the time now?
 
I had to put my AM radio in the bathroom recently to get better reception for KYW.. Just tried 1210 and it sounds like a grass trimmer is on in the background..
