WPIX News at 5:00 - Coming in September

I found this article that WPIX (channel 11) is going to air the 5:00 PM newscast staring this fall. Has anyone heard the news? Check it out!

As of now, I was dial flipping through the stations that WNBC has returned to its 5:00 PM newscast replacing the dreadful LX garbage and moved over to 3 PM, and WPIX-TV has finally pulled the plug with two of the shows and replaced with the "PIX-11 News At Five". What's happening here? Looks like channel 11 has changed direction from it's weekday afternoon block. I missed some of these shows that WPIX aired in reruns like "Saved By The Bell", "Charles In Charge", "Full House", "Batman", "Family Matters" and a few others from 5:00 PM lineup. But now it is a stupid newscast at 5:00 PM and channel 11 is unhappy with it. WNYW, WNBC, WABC and WCBS has the 5 PM newscast, and now WPIX carries the 5 PM newscast. WWOR didn't have a 5 PM newscast at all. What a bad move channel 11.

Ok, but that must have been some 15-20 years ago! It's not like they were just airing those shows.

Even cartoons at 5 PM (though I don't think 5, 9 or 11 ever ran such fare at that hour in this market) is a rarity these days.

The closest I can think of was in the mid-90's when channel 11 had 2 Power Rangers ripoffs in the 5PM hour. Other than that, nothing.

I believe you're referring to a show called "VR Troopers." Though I never actually considered live-action programming bona fide children's fare.
