WPJX sold to Polnet

Voluntary assignment of licence to from Multicultural to Polnet accepted for filing.

So basically, sold to Polnet for 250,000

My guess for when it comes back on the air:

Simmulcast WEEF, WKTA or WNVR. Would make a great fill in for any of the 3, but especially WEEF and WKTA. The only question is how much of an interest in WKTA/WEEF is in WPJX's coverage area. It was obviously intended to be leased ethnic but nobody ever leased time on it.
______________

What would be the purpose of such a small station. 250 watts? Can 1430 and 1500 be simmulcast? Can they combine 1430 and 1500?

Wow, not a bad deal for Multicultural... I think they bought the station from ABC for 80k.... after ABC paid 100-somthing.....

There's no reason they couldn't

I mean, increase the power of 1430, because of 1500?

1430 does not protect 1500. They are simply too far apart in
frequency. WEEF, on 1430, is pretty tightly locked in by:

WCMY (1430), Ottawa, IL;
WBEV (1430), Beaver Dam, WI;
WROK (1440), Rockford;
WIMS (1420), Michigan City, IN;

This information learned from their recent FCC application to
relocate to the 1330 site in Northbrook.

The only thing 1500 could offer 1430 is the ability to simulcast its
signal and extend the reach of its program format.

All of Polnet's stations at least have some form of nighttime status. 1500 might not get that as it's rather close to St Paul Minnesota, where KSTP broadcasts from, and KSTP must be protected at sunset. It's also close to WAKE Valparaiso Indiana and WPNA on 1490. Other than hispanics around Waukegan, I don't know what ethnic backgrounds are in WPJX's listening area.

WPJX was Spanish through much of the 90s. First stand alone (WKGA) then it went to its simmulcast of 1300 "La Mexicana" before going Radio Disney in 98. Disney couldn't afford to operate 1500 so they took it dark in 2000. Transfered it back to the former owner Robert Jeffers who gave it its WPJX calls and simmulcasted WBJX. Then dark. Then back to Radio Disney. Then to Multicultural.

If they do anything locally, you can probably bet it'll be Spanish looking at its history.

as for the power, I believe they are allowed to use something like 4 watts at night. Not sure. At night you can get a signal (they don't play anything on it) when you're up to a few blocks from the transmitter. Guess you can call that part 15 status. Probably not 4 watts since it goes nowhere a 0 watt part 15 wouldn't.
______________

It's about time. My bet is Polnet will try to move it. The site is in terrible shape. There isn't much that can be done with that station.

I don't know if they'll be able to change the COL since it'a daytimer, but if they move the tower site, it would have to be somewhere that'll reach the COL that it's assigned to. But I'll be surprised if they can get any night status with this station as it's close enough to KSTP St Paul, MN. I'm near WAKE Valparaiso and they can't get a Class B license due to being within 750 miles of KSTP. They were lucky to get night status at 25 watts. Like I said, I'd be surprised if Polnet can get any night status, considering they have night status on their other 3 stations, though it don't go far.
