WPJX Zion

I noticed that WPJX (AM 1500, Zion) has been missing for the past 3 days. I know it's an insignificant little automated station, but their playlist was interesting.

Anybody have any ideas of where they wnet?
______________

It happens. Earlier this year (or was it last) they were off for over a week then they came back. The station has a history of that even when they were Radio Disney, Spanish, etc. Since its winter they're probably having trouble with signing on/off.
______________

What's interesting about their playlist? Don't they always play the same songs on a cd changer or something? When I heard the station the audio quality was fairly bad also.

Last time 1500 had good audio quality was in the 90s when it was simmulcast of WTAQ/WRDZ

Since 2002 when Multicultural took over they've been playing a weird mix of Oldies, Standards and Classic Country. No liners (except promos for advertising, the TOH and PSAs) Advertising costs $5.00 a min with quantity discounts available. Only advertisers I've ever heard on there were a recycling center near the transmitter site and a dental supply company down the street from their studio so they couldn't be making much money. Multicultural paid 100k for it I think. Went pretty cheap for sure.

I think they need a processer or something.
______________

Hi Link:

Yes, they do have very low audio & the music is deffinately automated, but the unusual mix of oldies & some standards with a little country thrown in, is different. Since the station has virtually no advertisers, I'd love to hear a station that really plays anything. Imagine Bach, Beatles, B.B. King & Kenny Chesney.
______________

I always thought that it would be cool to buy this station, try to make it like WKRS used to be, a true Northern Lake County local station. High school sports, etc. Signal would just need a little boost to cover thru say, Libertyville area.

I think better processing would take care of that. When it was Radio Disney I used to be able to take it all the way to Oak Creek, WI.
______________

Better processing doesn't necessarily mean better signal. Yeah, you can crank up the modulation, but in this case based on how operations sound it's probably lack of maintenance that has caused this.
______________

Except.. It's stuck as a daytimer.. There's no way to get any night service on it.

You got to wonder when the owner is going to end it. perhaps' he's got 3 or 4 buildable lots there for houses. Or maybe only one and the scrap metal in the towers.

Is he doing a mrs. carlson and just taking a tax write off? Seems like nothings happened except the same 3 cd's for two years now. Its got to be the #1 loser radio station in the chicago area for sure. Although at least he didn't get the fcc fines like KKD this year. After this one finally dies kkd has got to be the next #1 loser.
