WPJX

Just before 9 I turned it on and noticed open carrier. At 9 "This is AM 1500 WPJX Zion" (the ID they've been using) followed by Fifth Dimention - Wedding Bell Blues. Back to the same programming they were running before it left the air.

Guess they're just doing what ABC did before Multicultural took over. Keepingt the transmitter running. <P ID="signature">______________

For curiosity's sake, how do they pronounce "Zion" in the legal? While the Drive's legals for WDRZ give it the "ZI-uhn" pronunciation that I consider standard, the kid from Dallas who did the Radio Disney legals always pronounced it "Zi-ON" (and I was surprised it was never corrected).

It's pronounnced "ZI-uhn" in the WPJX legal, as it should be. BTW the call for The Drive's 96.9 in Zion is WWDV.<P ID="signature">______________

I remember when it was Radio Disney (WTAQ/WTAU) they always IDed it "WTAQ La Grange WTAU Zi On-Chicago" later "WRDZ La Grange WDDZ Zi In Chicago" and finally "WRDZ La Grange Chicago, WDDZ Zi in" before going dead.

Currently they pronounce it "Zi in"

Zion is a very religious themed town so I'd say the correct pronounce is "Zi On" but it turned into Zi in over the years. Thats what we've always called it. I lived there not far from the 1500 tower site from 1987-1997 and everybody calls it "Zi In"

Sort of like Trevor, WI. People pronounce it TREE VOR. But its spelt "Trevor"<P ID="signature">______________

I've noticed them back on too. However, it seems the person programming the automation is not as adept as before. There are now long "dead air" spaces near the top of the hour, where before, there was always an instrumental piece played before the top of the hour. This piece was cut at the top of the hour for the legal ID and then it was on to a new song.

It will be sad to have another ethnic station around here. The dials are already flooded with them. <P ID="signature">______________

Some cheaper automation systems work on an hour clock... so if the hour is not completely filled it will broadcast dead air until the clock resets. Some next media stations are notorious for this problem.
