WPKN Audio

I have no affiliation with this station nor do I know anyone who currently works there. This station has excellent audio, though. Is Harry Minot still in charge over there? What are they running for audio processing? Who holds engineering duties?

As many of you probably know, this station runs the gamut as far as music genres are concerned, and the audio is consistent from show to show and always sounds good. Always crisp, always clean, depending of course upon the source material.

I have seen their old Harris TX on Scott Fybush's site of the week, where he shows us the old WICC-TV, now WEZN/WPKN/ whatever else site at Booth Hill in Trumbull. Are they still running that TX? I will say one thing, some of the major NY blowtorches could learn something from their CE. I assume whoever is engineering this station is a contract guy.... but again not sure.

Any answers to the above questions would be greatly appreciated, if for no other reason than to satisfy my curiousity...

I know a guy who pulls a shift there. I know for a fact they have an Aphex Compellor in their audio chain but I have no clue what comes after it. They've had really good audio for as long as I remember. Hell, I remember when I was in my teens and remember their audio sounding great and was floored to visit the studios to discover they had the CBS Audimax/Volumax combo - at the time I never heard a station sound that good with that combo of processing.

I use to remember the name of the engineer who maintains the station but for the life of me I can't recall who it is.

not to hijack this thread, but it seems like most people on this board are engineers. hartford ratings just came out, and NO posts...but we have one on WPKN audio. Reno from BLI was just announced as a new morning co-host on WEZN, NO posts, but we have DRC audio quality. seriously - does anyone on this board care about programming, or is it all audio chain crap??? i enjoy conversations about quality of audio, but please, this board is getting awfully predictable and sleepy.

If you carefully cull all the threads on the board (not just Connecticut) there's a mix of people in the trade (both on-air and engineering types) as well as those folk who are simply radio enthusiasts. Also, it probably would have been much better if you started a new thread.

Either the Hartford crowd didn't post anything about it or there was more interest in other happenings in the state.

I know there's at least one thread with my bashing Cox radio for getting rid of John Harper for their "sports dude" joke of a morning show! The misguided souls at Star 99.9 are always going to be second to WEBE thanks to the lack of direction at Cox - they need to get a clue - case and point is The Coast, but that's another story!

No, all we want to talk about is audio quality .... :p

but seriously, you're looking at a board driven by human interests. If you don't see a topic that you're interested in, start a thread. The late Doug Fleming had a mission, which was to create a forum for all of us to share views and opinions on various radio and tv related topics. Thanks to his mom, the legacy continues so why not avail yourself to it? While I can't remember the reference to the line I know you've heard it before: "if you create it, they will come" - so create the thread and those interested in the topic will flock to it.
