WPKZ 1280/105.3 throws aside Ellsbury for Jeter

Thanks for those links, masked man.

I'm not sure how many nighttime options local Sox listeners have aside from WCRN 830, which is listenable but not great. Certainly WEEI 850, WRKO 680, and WVEI 1440 are not options after dark.

And I don't know whether this factors in, but WPKZ has been on the selling block for quite a while at $950,000. The Yankees might improve the bottom line a little bit, but right now it would be tough to sell ads on exclusive coverage of the Second Coming.

"I have a bad feeling about this," says George Lucas.

Also 93.7 FM.

Do tell! Where Where can one find out more information about this?

The radio-locator.com _approximate_ signal range for 93.7 shows three circles--for the
extent of local, distant, and fringe listening. The local circle reaches out to about Nashua
while the distant signal reaches just beyond Fitchburg

List of Red Sox affiliate stations--which still mentions 1280, for now

Night coverage of WGHM 900 Nashua

WTIC may also do well at night

The 105.3 translator has a very impressive signal. I believe it's 250W. Does it transmit from the AM 1280 site? That site is quite high up--not far from the 960 site, which, IIRC, was once long ago also the site of what is now WXLO.

Yes, 105.3 is on a small tower right next to the 1280 transmitter building.

You can see a picture of it on NECRAT http://www.necrat.us/weim_proam.html

Go about 2/3 down the page; the listing is fourth from the bottom ("New England AM/FM..."):

Typically low on specifics, as these ads are very discrete, but 'PKZ pretty much fits this description, especially the big transmitter field part. (They don't play any AC now, but they did in its WEIM days, even when Ben Parker was there.)

Forgot about 93.7 -- I was spending a few days vacationing in 1986 when I posted. ;D

Fybush points out in today's column that Entercom believes Fitchburg area listeners can get by with the Sox on 93.7 and also WCRN 830 (and as I mentioned, there also is WGHM 900 Nashua and
WMRC 1490 Milford too)

I'm also amazed at how well W287BT comes in where I am in Andover. According to radio-locator, it's 150 watts, but from 1073 ft above sea level.

I get it very well...far better than I expected...in Methuen.

Dropping Heritage calls like WEIM should have been proof of shear stupidity

Jack Raymond wouldnt have done this

But "TIME"...they DIDN"T ADD THE YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aaarrrrgggghhhhhhh

And note the trees growing through the ground radials in the former field. http://www.necrat.us/weim_proam.html

Those pictures of the towers were taken from across the street and prove nothing.

Here's a Bing aerial image, apparently from 2010:

A little bit of brush in the field, sure, but not "trees growing through the ground radials."

When I can't find images on NECRAT or bostonradio.org, I use Google Earth(tm) or Bing(tm) and then zoom in very closely. Sometimes they stay perfectly sharp, other times the fuzz up a little when I do that.

in other news good conditions today i was able to receive the 105.3 translator way down here in Franklin in southeast mass!!
