WPKZ AM&FM?

I just saw a job announcement on the Mass Broadcasters Assoc. for WPKZ AM&FM, Fitchburg. WPKZ is the former WEIM, which was AM only. Anyone know of any new aquisitions? (I love that promise of a "unique market of over 500,000). They're lucky if that market is one-tenth of that.

WPKZ is quite an interesting station in an interesting little market. No radio competition with WCMX and WFGL having gone Christian. WXLO is now too expensive for most local businesses to advertise on. Dumping the music on the station was a good idea, and going talk in the day and all-sports at night was perfect until 98.5 came along with its sports format. Up until 98.5, no sports stations came in clearly at night in northern Worcester county. They might have to soon review their decision to broadcast all-sports at night. I'm not against new call letters for the station, but I'm not sure WPKZ is a great choice. And yes, they are stretching a few things: a market of a half-million for the station and the station's new top-of-the-hour ID "Fitchburg/Worcester" is also a stretch. The local morning show has been consistently excellent. It's a great mix of topics and plenty of news, sports and weather reports. Ben Parker and Scott May are very good broadcasters. In addition, the station has clearly made changes in the sales department. It sounds like they've added new advertisers and brought back many that have been off local radio for a while. Best of luck to them. I hope they make a ton of money.

I Miss Music On 1280 :-(. I Thought It Was Cool To Hear Music On AM Other Then Radio Disney.

What's 740 WJIB, with music 24/7 (except Sunday mornings), chopped liver?

How about 980 WCAP, their "Beatles and Before" oldies format whenever they don't have talk shows on?

WILD with automated Classic Soul (in poor audio fidelity) weekdays after 4 PM and most of the weekend?

And, those are just the AM's that can be heard in Boston with music in English...

I think he was talking about stations that could be heard in the Fitchburg area. Can any of the ones you mentioned be heard there (by anyone but a hard-core DX'er)?

They would all be very faint in Fitchburg, but he mentioned listening to Radio Disney. WMKI 1260 would also be a very weak catch at best in Fitchburg, so I figured he's somewhere closer to Boston, unless he's listening to Disney at night skipping up on 1560 from NYC.

I'm Near The Lowell Area And I Just Thought It Was Cool To Hear Hot-AC/Top-40 On The AM Band. They Played A Good Mix Of Music.
I agree. I miss them too. And since I never listen to conservative talk, the station is now dead to me.
