WPLG expands local news after dropping ABC

Based on the days/times of the newscasts in that article, my calculations yield only 88 hours each week.

The article says 93 hours of news and sportscasts. 88 hours of "Local 10 News" plus 5 hours of the "Local 10 Sports" sportscasts.

I could think of no better illustration for the fade-out of local television's relevance. 93 hours of local news in a majority-Spanish-speaking bilingual market is absolutely excessive and long-term value destructive. Just because it worked for Ed Ansin twice and worked for WJXT and KTVK does not guarantee success here, and especially with such an embarrassing glut of local news that the market cannot support.

I know Warren Buffett doesn't like taking Ls but he really should unload WPLG at a loss to Mission Broadcasting (so Nexstar can run it) as Miami's CW outlet.

True and if that really happens Warren Buffet would have to end the news staff contracts between WPLG and Graham Media (the owners of WDIV Detroit and KPRC Houston.) Yes it’s for the obvious like Mission Broadcasting is the TV Station license holder and Nexstar sends their news staff to Mission Broadcasting operations.

They promote the newscast times and that Kelly & Mark will be at 11am and wheel and jeopardy will stay in the 7pm hour. Still no word on 1-3pm and 8 to 9pm weekdays.

Check TitanTV listings or TV Guide beginning 2 weeks out. You should see what's coming. Trust me, I'm chomping at the bit for that info. Info should be available by at least 7/22/25 or later.

Titan TV has Law & Order SVU at 1pm and 48 Hours at 2pm. Plus they have People Puzzler in the 8pm hour.
ABC miami on 7.2 and 18.1 still has old affiliations schedule

TV passport has the schedule for ABC Miami it picks up several shows from other local stations. They get Tamron Hall from WSFL for 4pm. 25 words or less comes from WBFS for the 3pm hour. Extra comes from WFOR/WBFS for 10am and 7pm.

Titan TV has 48 Hours coming from WBFS air at 2pm on WPLG.

The problem with scrambling last minute to fill programming holes is you end up with bottom of the barrel syndication.

That is exactly the case. We have been through two (three if you count the small nets) network swaps here in Atlanta over the years. When a station suddenly has many more hours to program, they get what they can. Here we saw it take a couple of years for those stations to improve their programming. They basically outbid other stations as contracts for syndicated shows came up for renewal.

Wonder if the 7:30 slot is going to be a simulcast of ch. 7 showing Deco Drive.

Yes according to the schedule from TV passport. so Deco at 10:30a, 7:30p and again at 1:06am after Nightline. Both TV passport and Titan TV have CBS 4 still airing Extra at 2:07am while WPLG has the show at 10A and 7Pm starting August 4.
