WPLJ and WRXP

Why doesn't RXP just look at 107.1 out of Westchester. That station does it right.

Perhaps the problem would be that an AAA format such as WRXP's would be too similar to that of WFUV, which has been established in New York for a long time.
And though I believe WFUV is a great station, it gets rather poor overall ratings in New York.

I was wondering how NYC could be getting by without an Alternative station, and looking up WRXP's playlist on yes.com basically answers my question lol

To me, Triple A doesn't play Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, and Nine Inch Nails (or Plowed by Sponge) - they seem pretty similar to 99X/Atlanta, or maybe Radio 92.9/Boston, and IMO they definitely belong on the Alternative panel - every once in a while there's a song that doesn't fit, like something by Tom Petty, but IMO not enough to classify it as AAA

As far as playing both AC/DC and Coldplay, DC101/Washington does that (pretty successfully), but again, they're classified as Alternative

I think a big problem with rock is the lack of good current product. Where have all the rock groups gone? Where are todays versions of Led Zep, The Who, The Stones. Or even Journey, Billy Idol, or U2? Rock is just about gone from Top 40. So even if a rock group is popular, they are not mass appeal. It seems that with rock, everything that is popular is old.

I think a lot of today's bands could become more popular if radio stations would just give them a chance. Zeppelin, The Who, and The Stones may be seen almost indisputably as legends now, but I'm sure they had their detractors back in the day. (I know Zep in particular got routinely panned by Rolling Stone.) And even now, Journey and Billy Idol aren't exactly universally adored.
