WPLJ format

Wow you're right - looks like three 80s songs per hour

Do people really want to hear My Chemical Romance followed by Huey Lewis & The News lol? (Maybe they do, idk)

I like it... Very few songs today I actually like enough to not only remember, but get into. And those that do usually never last more than a few months....

80's songs are usually very up tempo and fun. Artists from today could learn alot..

Wow is that something a 45 year old would say. Or a 65 year old, 75 yr old.....Back in MY day...

It's an AC station! The demo is 25-54 yr old women. You guys need to find a Jack FM on line or buy an Ipod They should NOT be playing 80's alongside currents. This is why this station has sucked for 15 years. They don't appeal to their demo so they try to appeal to everyone. That never works.

do you realize if the demo is 25 to 54 yr old women this would include 70s & 80s music...?

In theory yes, but the major part of the demo, the core audience is 35 yr old women who want to be current. If they didn't, they would listen to Fresh or Lite. A 25 year range of music doesn't work. Your theory is that if demo is 25-54 that covers 80,'s 90's and 2000's. It's flawed radio logic because the 25-35's don;t want to hear the 80' on a current music station (Or they fear they are perceived as out of touch or old) and the 50 yr olds don't have passion for the current music and they don't want rap but the 40 yr old grew up on rap. So, nobody has passion of stays for 5 songs in a row which is why they don't get a 2 share. No 2 people's Ipod music is the same. In rock terms men, a station that plays 30 Sec To Mars doesn't succeed also playing Poison and Black Sabbath.

I just don't care for most of the stuff I hear WPLJ play... and the stuff I do like usually doesn't last for more than a month or two. I just like songs that make you move, like that Michael Fronte 'Hey, how's it going today' song....

???

Hot AC (Adult CHR) - but I guess they must be trying to reach out to the older parts of the demo with the 80s stuff

Lol 70s would definitely be stretching it ;D

We've got enough 70's on CBS-FM and Lite. Granted, we've got plenty of 80's too, but WPLJ plays some songs that are too edgy for the aforementioned stations and don't fit WRXP's format (whatever you want to call it).

Likely a move to try to get some more Fresh and Lite listeners, both stations play 80s....Lite does, especially. Heck, even CBS-FM. Not necessarily a bad move.

I love it! They played the Monroes "What Do All The People Know" this afternoon! NYC needs a station that plays more 80s rock music. I hadn't heard that song on the radio since 'LIR..

This morning, I heard a "teaser" on WPLJ for songs "coming up" after the commercial break that would follow. "Neon Trees," said the VO guy, followed by a clip of a new Neon Trees song. Then, the VO guy says, "Rihanna," and we hear a clip of a Rihanna song. What does the VO guy say next? "A Flock Of Seagulls." Really, how many people are going to stick around knowing that they will hear not only two new songs, but the thirty-year old song "I Ran"?

Different strokes for different folks, I guess...

This station has sucked for 20 years. SOMEBODY will realize it someday. Hopefully. These are radio professionals?

Yeah, I really don't get this move at all, unless they're experimenting to see whether they get higher callout from Rihanna or A Flock Of Seagulls, and they're planning on shifting the station either in one direction or the other - I just can't imagine this is a permanent move, cause you can't please both 55-year-olds that want to hear nostagic 80s tracks and 25-year-olds that want to hear the new Rihanna song they heard in the club last night

And playing My Chem. Romance into Huey Lewis & The News - I just can't buy that they share too many listeners
