WPLJ 'Way Back' weekend..

This is almost laughable :).

'We're going way....back. The 80's, the 90's...who knows what else we'll play?' Well, you just told us right there :). Maybe they'll throw in one 70's song to fool people...but I doubt it :).

I'm going to try and go to PLJ's Prison Break all week on the 9th...I wonder what the DJ's actually think of these types of promos and the music on their own station? :)

I don't know about the station as a whole, but I had the opportunity to meet one of the PLJ jocks recently, and he definitely seemed to be rolling his eyes whenever discussing the "soccer mom" type of music on the station.

Interestingly enough, about a year and a half ago, PLJ seemed to widen the playlist and was even playing stuff from the 70s. The ratings didn't seem to take a hit either, but for whatever reason, they've tightened things back up.

I guess this means we are getting old when a song from the 1980's is considered "way back" :'(
Yea, I know, 27 years.

Agreed. I still remember the early 80s, and I'm 28 :).

They had a great story yesterday of how two teenaged kids where going to work at the Cablevision portion of the building and didn't know TV was in black and white 'back in the day'. Apparently they don't like TV land.

I almost wish things where as simple as they where back then. I had my portable black and white TV the size of a portable hard drive and I was happy :). Who needs Creative Zen? :)

Re: WPLJ and 70's music. One time a year ago they had a 'One hit Wonder' Wensday. They started off by playing some really rare songs, like 'The Curly Shuffle', one of my favorites :). By the end of the hour, however, they started playing some of the newer artists who also had 'one hit'. Maybe someone high up at the station was listening and didn't like the idea.
