WPLJ's The Todd Show

Tomorrow morning The Todd Show debuts on WPLJ. What can we expect?? The Scott and Todd Show minus Scott? A different show entirely? Will they find a new way to cater to their core audience? Will the show be different that what has been or will it be so different that we won't recognize it? What does everyone think???

Things I Like:
Awesome new Logo for PLJ and the show.
meatballs sounds like he's going to be as entertaining as Brad Blanks
Two hot new women co anchors

Things I'll have to get used to
- new phone scam times
- wearing a black armband for the harp.

Otherwise, it does sound younger, faster paced (As it always did without scott) and if not happier, fresher.
I hope it's going to be an entertaining year. I've been told that as scott got older, he wasn't a fan of remotes, so that's one reason why the show hasn't traveled as much as they used to (diner tours, vacation getaways, marathons, etc). So I'm hoping for more of that with a younger crew. I think the shows best years where 2000-2010. The first 9 they where rough around the edges, and the last three they just started sounding grumpier even on air.

So, I'm hoping this is a GOOD fresh start. and so far it seems to be. None of the new people annoy me so far, so that's always a plus :)

add on, I love the fact that on the other message board, the so called experts who don't even listen to the show, post a thread 'todd bashes scott' and they quote those opie and anthony idiots.
I guess they didn't know that scott held alot of the power at the station..now that he's gone, todd is the head guy as far as the show goes.

Meaning what??

I read that fan comment one way, and now that I see it again, probably took it the wrong way, :)

Just wanted to point out that I'm not only a fan, but have been around the show long enough behind the scenes to have some working theories on how things operate :)
That post on the other message board full of speculation (which we all love to do) just irked me ;o).

But, back on topic..what did everyone think of day two? Yesterday, the Phone scams did not impress me at all and almost sounded kind of sad. I hope they get better.

i'm out of the demo they want and a fear most of the WPLJ audience is too. Wonder what it will do to the rest of the day's numbers? Just how much experience do these folks have? Just makes one wonder.....

I'm out of the demo too....they mostly go for women. hence the pink in the logo ;o).

listened to a little more of the second show yesterday. The one thing they REALLY need to work on is their audio processing. When I go into adobe to edit out the spots and the music, the sound processing is all over the place. at least on the net feed. Songs will be so loud the wave form blurs together, and then during the middle of a song, it'll get quiet again...and when the talking comes back, goes back to LOUD again. It's been that way for quite a while, on the internet stream at least. not sure how it sounds on air.

But, as for the Demo subject......The Descision for Scott to go to WCBS and the 6AM time slot is an interesting one. I bet you at least 1 3rd of Todd's audience will go over to WCBS to listen to Scott and Joe. Maybe more if Scott brings Patty in like he did over on his PLJ stint. That could be a bit of trouble for todd if he doesn't find that new, younger audience I think the show is looking for....

My theory is, that the reason he choose 4 new young people, is because he is trying to groom a new morning show into place. That way, when his contract is up, he can follow scott to cbs and get out of the cumulus thumb of debt. But, that's only a mindless working theory :).

Agree. That PLJ webstream sounds are off level sometimes. To loud and too soft. I'll keep turn my volume up and down everytime.

Web streams are the bastard child of radio!!

I think you are generous saying that Todd will only loose 1/3 of their audience to Scott. I bet a lot more. WPLJ better do some advertising because a new audience ain't gonna find 95.5 by word of mouth!!

The over sponsorship of the show has to go .... Now even the evans weather report has a 40 second tag? there is a reason why people are tuning out of commercials... there are too many!

all in all, I think the show is settling in. They seem to tag anna as the new main fourth person. meatballs and sheila don't say that much.

With Scott gone, it would be nice if they evolved into a female friendly Alternative (ala WRFF) format, to fill that large gap.

Most radio stations seem to care little about their web stream. They blow smoke, but care less than they do about their HD channels!

Sounds like the PLJ webstream is fixed. All audio on one level again. But still awfull sound quality. Use decent processing for it, how hard it can be.

Day 5. I think Meatballs is proving to be the weakest link. Whenever he is on, it sounds like they forget the mic's are on and it becomes a bit awkward to listen too.
At least the girls sound good while talking...they just need to get their big city radio shoes on with practice.

Then again, Meatballs is doing better than I probably would be in the same spot, so I probably shouldn't critique )
